In this post, we take a look at three of the top performing players so far this season. And because everyone likes video game numbers, we’re taking a look at the top quarterback, running back and wide receiver in the state so far, based on their production.
Norwalk senior quarterback Aidan Harder Aidan Harder 6’3″ | QB Norwalk | 2024 IA is absolutely lighting it up so far this season as they are off to a 2-0 start. They would go on the road in their first game and put up 50+ points and then had a close game in week two with a 21-14 win. But in both weeks, Harder absolutely torched defenses with his arm and he’s on pace for some massive numbers throwing the football. In two games, Harder has thrown for just over 800 yards and eight touchdowns. And he’s completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. You don’t see players averaging just over 400 passing yards a game very often. Odds are, he’s not going to keep up that pace but there’s no doubt he’s off to a hot start this season.
We go from the top quarterback to the top wide receiver and there might not be a player in the country that had better receiving numbers than Cyrus Courtney Cyrus Courtney 6’1″ | 190 lbs | WR Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2024 IA did in week two. Before we get to those, Courtney had a solid first week and was one of our top performers as he caught eight passes for nearly 150 yards and a touchdown. Respectable numbers. Then week two happened and he is still running open against Pleasant Valley. He absolutely exploded for 17 receptions for 320 yards and three touchdowns. That’s a good stretch for two or three games and he did it in one night. Courtney has just over 450 receiving yards in the first few games and we can’t wait to see what he ends up doing this week.
And our final standout might be one of the more versatile and high-performing players in the state of Iowa right now when you consider what he’s been able to do. Maquoketa Valley senior Lance McShane Lance McShane 6’3″ | RB Maquoketa Valley | 2024 IA has put up some monster numbers on the ground at the running back position but he’s done everything except sell popcorn at the concession stand. McShane has just over 600 yards on the ground already. In their first game of the season, McShane ran for nearly 300 yards, made a catch, played a little quarterback, led the team in tackles, had two interceptions and kicked. It’s hard to imagine there’s another player in the state that has made more of an impact with production in all three phases of the game.
