Coombs racked-up a ton of yards from scrimmage, and his athleticism was on full display. He's absolutely automatic as a scorer in the red zone, as he had multiple scores in this contest, and his presence in the backfield always draws a lot of attention from the opposing defense. When it comes to stopping Bud Coombs, every defense in the WCAC should be on high alert because he's looking completely unstoppable at the moment. Gardner threw an early 60 yard touchdown pass to his young receiver [player_tooltip player_id='212349' first='Lavar' last='Keys'], and he then quickly threw another to his veteran pass catcher Cody Williams on a short out route from the two yard line. Gardner's third and final touchdown pass of the day is nominated for my 2023 Throw of the Season Award, as he threw an absolute seed on a read-option seam route to his receiver #16 [player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes']. [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] and the Stags' offense can score on any defense in the nation right now, and, at 4-0, Gardner has this team in a great position to compete for WCAC gold this Fall. We saw just that on his touchdown reception for the Stags, where he ran a beautiful in and out route from the two yard line for the score. His undeniable chemistry with [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] certainly makes them the most efficient QB-WR tandem in all of the WCAC, and my prediction is that they put up massive numbers together this weekend against the Rock Christian Academy Eagles. Cody Williams' recruitment must be taken very seriously, because he consistently showcases unique pass catching ability that cannot be denied. He scored the first touchdown of the game for the Stags on an electrifying catch and run from beyond half field. Both his speed and elusiveness were eye-opening during the highlight-reel play. Keys transitioned seamlessly into this offense, making DeMatha one of the most unstoppable forces in the DMV. He accumulates a lot of his yards after contact, and it seems to me that he would make a great tight end as well. Regardless of where he's lined up, Dyson finds a way to get open and make impactful plays for this DeMatha team. While he didn't find the end zone in this contest, [player_tooltip player_id='277915' first='Emmanuel' last='Dyson'] accounted for multiple third down conversions as well as a few big time runs after the catch for huge gains. Dyson embodies both the toughness and grit that are often features of the Stags' identity, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will continue to bring that same energy this Friday night.
