Strong compact frame at 5’10” 205 lbs. He’s a hard downhill runner that is quick to press the LOS and shows good contact balance to break tackles especially at the first level. Plus lateral agility to make quick/explosive cuts in space, love his hard lateral jump cuts around defenders. Really impressed by his start/stop speed and ability to accelerate out of his cuts. Strong sustained burst in the open field to run away from defenders and finish off long runs in the endzone. Recruiting started during his junior season with offers coming in from Northwestern State and Lincoln but really took off during the offseason with offers from UNLV, Sacramento State, Cal Poly, and Idaho. Strong start to his senior year with over 700 yards and nine touchdowns on 97 carries in four games.
6 Offers: Northwestern State, Lincoln, UNLV, Sac State, Cal Poly, Idaho
Paiau is a big power back at 5’11” 210 lbs. More quick than fast especially in the short area showing good initial quickness out of his stance and burst through the first level. Plus field vision and patience to read/manipulate his blocks and see angles to create open running lanes. Tough to tackle anywhere on the field with his low center of gravity and leg drive but once he gets going downhill in space he’s a force. Great ability to pick up yards after contact putting pressure on the defense to rally to the ball and gang tackle. Does a really good job making one cut and then getting his shoulders square to go north/south. Picked up his first offer from Cal Poly in June and possesses a skillset that can transition to either side of the ball at the college level.
1 Offer: Cal Poly
Powerful and well-built frame at 5’11” 195 lbs. with a strong lower half. He’s a tough runner between the tackles but also has the speed to turn the corner on the perimeter. He’s an instinctual ball carrier with good open field vision and awareness of where defenders are and where he can attack. He accelerates through the LOS before he can use his creative and savvy open field skills to be elusive and make defenders miss. Runs with good pad level and leverage, can break tackles and run through early contact especially at the first and second level. Also a threat as a receiver and not just on short screens. He’s a natural pass catcher that sees it in with his hands and can track/adjust to ball flight. Picked up his initial offer from Cal Poly after a great camp where he was selected RB MVP and then committed a day later.
