BREAKDOWN
Auburn was able to move the ball really well against Hoover both in the air and on the ground. Auburn’s QB Jackson Kilgore Jackson Kilgore 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Auburn | 2025 AL had himself a day where he ended up totaling 203 passing yards and 2 touchdowns with an additional 25 rushing yards and a touchdown as well. Auburn’s RB Tyler Flakes Tyler Flakes 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Auburn | 2024 AL was also super productive on the ground for them as well as he totaled up 62 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries. Overall, Hoover’s defense really struggled to find an answer to these two- Flakes and Kilgore really moved the ball efficiently and were able to consistently find the endzone as well while Hoover’s offense had a hard time finding its footing.
Now, let’s check up on those prospects we listed last week and see how they performed!
HOOVER
Bradley Shaw Bradley Shaw 6'1" | LB Hoover | 2024 State AL -LB
Bradley Shaw Bradley Shaw 6'1" | LB Hoover | 2024 State AL was a bright spot on Hoover’s defense last Friday night- unsurprisingly it looks like the talented senior LB hasn’t missed a step. Shaw had a big statistical night that featured him totaling up 15 tackles, a sack, and a play on special teams where he even blocked an extra point. Shaw is without a doubt one of the top defensive talents in the state- he just flies around the field to make plays and has only progressed and gotten even better year after year. After a first week like he had, it won’t be surprising to see more of those dominant performances soon!
Jonah Winston Jonah Winston 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Hoover | 2026 State AL -ATH
Jonah Winston Jonah Winston 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Hoover | 2026 State AL had himself a great night all things considered, and was responsible for all the points scored by his offense. Winston is a talented sophomore who can impact the game in a ton of different ways, but on Friday he was a menace running the ball. Winston had two touchdowns on the ground, one that went 35 yards on a fourth down, and one that was a one-yard goal-line score. Winston is a really fun player to watch who keeps on impressing us, he just gave us an exciting peak at what could be coming in his sophomore campaign, and man we are excited!
AUBURN
Griffin McLean Griffin McLean 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Auburn | 2024 AL -TE
Griffin McLean Griffin McLean 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Auburn | 2024 AL had a big first game back for Auburn’s passing attack- providing his quarterback with reliable target and totaling up 4 receptions for 57 yards. McLean has some real promise in Auburn’s offense this year, he is a talented passing option who can run routes and gain great separation, and he has a great set of hands- all of which stood out to us Friday night. Keep an eye on him as the year goes on, he’s set up for a big senior year!
Hugh Bodiford Hugh Bodiford 6'3" | 330 lbs | OL Auburn | 2025 State AL -OL
Hugh Bodiford Hugh Bodiford 6'3" | 330 lbs | OL Auburn | 2025 State AL and the rest of Auburn’s offensive line was instrumental to their success last week- they rarely allowed pressure to their quarterback, if any at all, and were able to move the ball with extreme ease all game long. Bodiford had some great plays where he really set the tone along the line with his blocking in both the run game and pass protection. Bodiford put a lot of good things on tape Friday and is headed for a big remainder of the year!
CONCLUSION
In the end, Auburn was able to come away with the victory against Hoover for the second straight year in a row. Auburn has a serious chance at making another deep run in the 7A this year and Hoover shouldn’t ever be counted out either- both these teams have some serious talent and great coaching staffs that are going to lead them onto having big years this fall
