When I previewed Gainesville’s roster a couple of times this past off-season there were quite a few players who caught my eye. None more than their all-state caliber running back in junior Koven Smith Koven Smith 5’9″ | 180 lbs | ATH Gainesville | 2025 State VA . The playmaker picked up where he left off last year as he gashed Potomac for 5 total touchdowns! Smith is sure to move up our class of 2025 rankings and is only getting better day by day. I have said it before I will say it again do not sleep on the Gainesville Cardinals for 2023.
Okay this is my last post for now on Herman “Action” Jackson but it has to be mentioned he is one top running backs in the state. Rushing for two scores and 170 yards, here is my initial reaction yesterday:
Thee star of the night was this young man Herman “Action” Jackson as he ran over/under/around and through the Unity Reed defense. Jackson had over 20 carries for nearly 170 yards rushing with two touchdowns. The way he has been working and performing he will be a name to know in the Cardinal district. A very humble young man who has a bright future, I expect him to receive all-conference honors this year.
Aiden Billings
Aiden Billings
Been high on this young man since I first saw his tape last January, was thrilled to see him dominate this past Friday night. Senior Aiden Billings has a chance to be one of the best defensive lineman for the South Lakes Seahawks this fall. Only playing one half as him and his Seahawk teammates took care of business early against Osbourn, Billings was living in the Eagles backfield. Accounting for 1 sack, two tackles for losses and a forced fumble, Billings showed how dominate he can be. Cannot wait to see how his senior year unfolds, he has worked so hard to get their!

The number 1 recruit in the state of Virginia did his thing in his debut for the Fairfax Lions. Only playing for a half as the Lions made light work of Wakefield, Jones still showed why he is worth the price of admission. In just a half Jones had several big time runs punishing Wakefield defenders. He also was the lead back making pancake blocks leading to numerous Fairfax touchdowns. Should be fun to see how he adjust as the Lions schedule ramps up in a few weeks, if his first game performance is any indication, I think he will be just fine.

Highlights
Wide receiver/free safety Cord Yates Cord Yates 5’9″ | 160 lbs | WR James Madison | 2024 State VA lead the charge as the Madison Warhawks took down the Stonebridge Bulldogs in what has to been the game of the week. The senior Yates was all over the field making plays on offense, defense and special teams. Hauling in 6 receptions for 72 yards and 1 touchdown, Yates showed why he is going to be one of the most sought out remaining uncommitted recruits for the class of 2024.
My favorite play from him was the big time block he threw on Dominic Knicely Dominic Knicely 5’9″ | 185 lbs | ATH James Madison | 2025 State VA 99 yard kickoff return. The kickoff return by Knicely was well designed by the Warhawks, and Knicely took an end around on the kickoff for an awesome touchdown. If you have a chance watch the final block Yates throws decleating the Bulldogs kicker, please do so it is worth your time.
Final Thoughts:
A great first week of action here in all of Virginia, very impressed with the level of play and enthusiasm I see across the state. Hats off to Aidan Dash and the Woodson Cavaliers taking the mighty Yorktown Patriots to the finish in defeat. I really think Woodson is in to surprise many folks they nearly did it against a darn good Yorktown team week 1.
