Continue ReadingFootball season is in full swing and we at Prep Redzone are ecstatic to be covering some of Canada’s top football prospects. Today, we’re focusing on one team’s roster: The George McDougall Mustangs. The Mustangs are already off to a hot start, defeating Holy Rosary 23-12 this past Saturday, and are looking to keep up the momentum. This is a highly skilled 2023 roster and I looked at some of their top prospects this season.
As always, If you have someone you think I need to see, please DM them to me on Twitter at @hsfbscout!
QB: Kohen Bohnet Kohen Bohnet 6'5" | 185 lbs | QB George McDougall | 2025 State CAD 6’4″ 175
Kohen gets the ball out of his hand quickly on called RPOs, his play fakes are deceptive & extremely misleading, and he shows natural touch throwing on the run. He’s quite effective working outside the pocket on called boots, he can step up and run if nothing presents itself downfield and can challenge deep-half defenders with his arm talent.
LB: Wesley Bromley Wesley Bromley LB Ecole Francophone | 2024 State CAD , 5’11” 200
A thumper who speeds his feet on contact, takes sharp angles to the tackle, and can stuff backs one on one in the hole. Welsey is tough as nails, he shows effective instincts in zone coverage and is awfully disruptive in the run game. He may not be the tallest linebacker out there, but he’s a playmaking machine that can defeat blocks with both quickness & strength and is equally effective against the run as he is against the pass.
LB: Jakob Hertz Jakob Hertz 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB George McDougall | 2025 CAD , 6’2″ 200
Hertz has a projectable frame for the position and I don’t think he’ll have trouble adding size once he gets to the college ranks. I’ve written about him previously and think he has a natural football IQ & overall solid athleticism. He’s a mean striker with good tracking ability and uses his physicality to defeat blocks at the point of attack.
DL: Jordan Southern Jordan Southern DL George McDougall | 2024 State CAD , 6’3″ 245
Another young man with good size, but also shows subtle yet effective hands and steady production racking up seven sacks and ten tackles for loss last season. He’s nasty when playing on the offensive line and looks to finish blocks any chance he gets. He gets his hands up if he can’t get to the quarterback and shows loose hips as a pass rusher.
DB: Kale Fehr Kale Fehr 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB George McDougal | 2024 State CAD 6’1″ 180
A safety prospect with good closing speed, adequate body control, and is a rock-solid wrap tackler in the open. Kale can provide run fits within the box and takes pride in playing special teams. He’s tough, is slippery against perimeter blocks, and shows above-average ball skills.
