For the majority of the class of 2027 athletes, they will be getting their first taste of high school ball in just a few short weeks. Prep Redzone Next is here to help shine a light on some of the freshmen to know about in Tennessee this upcoming season. Not all will play varsity right away, and some of the athletes below may have already peaked athletically in football. On the other hand, there may be (probably will be) glaring omissions from the list below–and that’s the beauty of it. This is a Watchlist based off athletes we have either watched on film or in person during their pre-high school careers.
The only player officially ranked in every state will be who we perceive as being the top prospect in the state for the class, coming out of middle school. In Tennessee, that 2027 prospect is Wide Receiver, Jamir Dean Jamir Dean 6'2" | 155 lbs | WR Alcoa | 2027 State TN . All other players will be listed as WL for Watchlist.
The first comprehensive and official Tennessee High School rankings for the class of 2027 will be released by Prep Redzone Tennessee.
Tennessee’s No.1 2027 Prospect: Jamir Dean Jamir Dean 6'2" | 155 lbs | WR Alcoa | 2027 State TN | Wide Receiver | Alcoa
There are athletic kids before high school…and then there’s whatever adjectives you can find to describe the ability of Jamir Dean Jamir Dean 6’2″ | 155 lbs | WR Alcoa | 2027 State TN . He’s one of those kids that you whip out your phone, pull up his highlights and show others during family gatherings or while talking ball. At 6-foot-2 and 155 pounds, I honestly feel he has the potential to be Division 1 athlete in all three sports he plays: football, basketball and track and field. To say his eighth year was legendary, would be an understatement. This past May, he won the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association State Championship in the High Jump for the second consecutive year, by jumping a personal-best of 6-foot. On the hardwood, he’s a one-man highlight tape with jaw-dropping dunk’s that see him get eye-level with the rum on the regular. He was an All-District and All-Section selection, while averaging 15 points a game. As for the gridiron, just watch the tape. On an Alcoa team that has nine (9) extremely gifted athletes listed on the 2027 TN Watchlist, Dean remained a cut above. I’m not the only one with that mindset, as he picked up his first offer this past November from the University of Memphis. That list should grow a significant amount very quickly, as he heads to Alcoa High and should become an instant impact player for a program that has gone 135-12 over the last decade.
