Offense

The Carlsbad offense returns the #1-QB in the state- [player_tooltip player_id='115456' first='Julian' last='Sayin']- and one of the top RBs in the area- [player_tooltip player_id='1128336' first='Mason' last='Walsh']. Sayin, the Alabama commit, is one of the most talented arms in the country with elite accuracy, arm strength, and IQ. Walsh was one of the biggest RB stock-risers in SD last season totaling 1300 yards and 17 TDs. He picked up his first offer from Columbia in May. Senior WR [player_tooltip player_id='424976' first='Griffin' last='Rosenbloom'] is the best returning receiving threat for the offense. The 6'5”/200 wideout has added offers from Columbia, Navy, Penn, and Dartmouth this offseason. Two major additions at wideout are Texas transfers [player_tooltip player_id='1128116' first='Will' last='Cianfrini'] (Sr.) and Connor Hawk (Jr.). Cianfrini's a long receiver on the perimeter (6'4"/180) with a D-I WR skillset and speed/elusiveness after the catch. He's added offers from SDSU, Cal, Tulane, UNLV, and Utah St. this offseason. Hawk offers a talented vertical skillset at 6'3”/185 with great ball skills and high-point ability. The OL unit returns senior Joseph McKissick who spent time at C and OG last season. He's a stout, physical IOL at 6'/250 that can solidify the interior of the pocket and move DTs off the ball. Returning junior OT Andrew Langer is solid in pass protection and shows good mobility working up to the second level in the run game.

Defense

The defense is led by Stanford LB-commit [player_tooltip player_id='398452' first='Luke' last='Ferrelli'] who picked up 15 D-I offers this offseason. He's a highly athletic OLB with great size (6'3”/220), speed and physicality. He committed to Arizona in April before picking up a Stanford offer and committing in June. Also returning is senior ILB [player_tooltip player_id='1128328' first='Thomas' last='McCormick'] who led the team in tackles last season (95 total) and offers athletic versatility in coverage. He's a fast, downhill tackler with a quick trigger to the football and delivers strong contact in space. Senior DE Jude McClellan is the top returner on the DL unit posting 58 total tackles, 6 sacks, and 16 TFLs as a junior. He's a developing pass rusher and a solid edge-setter at 6'4”/230. The secondary will look to replace crucial pieces from last season with the graduation of Justin Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id='398432' first='Justus' last='Woods'] (transfer to San Marcos). Senior S Damon Ivey is the leader of this group with 93 tackles and 7 PBUs as a junior. He's an instinctive middle-field safety that's extremely active in coverage and a physical tackler in space. Senior DB Logan Shaffer should be in position for a more significant role this season. He moved around playing SS/CB flashing defensive playmaking ability as a junior.
