After an action-packed opening weekend of high school football at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium for the annual Rafferty's Bowl, it's time to look back at some of the top standouts from week one that made their presence known in Bowling Green to kickoff the 2023 campaign. Without any further ado, here's my MVPs/top performers from the Rafferty's Bowl.

At the top of my list of top standouts is [player_tooltip player_id='381931' first='Brady' last='Hensley'], a 6-foot-0, 202-pound running back at Lexington Christian Academy. Hensley picked up 489 yards and seven total touchdowns in the Eagles' 56-52 victory over Bowling Green High School.

In addition to excellent footwork and physicality, what makes Hensley so explosive on the ground is his size, durable edge and breakaway speed as he was able to blast past the Purples' defensive line at multiple key moments to add more touchdowns to the board. Hensley's movement off the snap as well as his ability to withstand heavy defensive pressure and break tackles also added to his impact for the Eagles in their season-opening win in Bowling Green.

2. [player_tooltip player_id='373790' first='Montavin' last='Quisenberry'] - ATH - 2025 - Boyle County

Claiming the second place spot on my list of most impressive playmakers is [player_tooltip player_id='373790' first='Montavin' last='Quisenberry'], a 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete at Boyle County High School. On the offensive side of the ball, Quisenberry recorded four rush attempts and three receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side, Quisenberry picked up three total tackles, including one solo stops and two assisted takedowns. Quisenberry additionally forced one fumble and hauled in one interception for a gain of five yards.

What stood out about Quisenberry was his athleticism, versatile edge and explosiveness on both sides of the ball. Quisenberry was relentless offensively as he blasted Gibson Southern's defense with his physical edge and durability both in the pocket and down the stretch, proving he can maneuver the field under pressure. The junior playmaker made an impact defensively due to his quick execution off the snap, his ability to apply pressure and his ability to be disruptive. Quisenberry made several key stops in the Rebels' 36-6 victory over the Titans.

3. [player_tooltip player_id='340071' first='Deuce' last='Bailey'] - QB - 2025 - Bowling Green

Coming in at third place on my list of top performers is [player_tooltip player_id='340071' first='Deuce' last='Bailey'], a 6-foot-1, 165-pound quarterback at Bowling Green High School. In his first time under center for the new seasons, Bailey threw for 31 completions out of 42 attempts for 478 yards and four touchdowns despite the Purples falling short 56-52 in final seconds.

Bailey caught my attention with his impactful passing as well as his ability to make big plays under pressure. Bailey also stood out due to his ability to adjust to heavy pressure from the Eagles' defense and hit his receivers in stride from anywhere on the field, completing a number of impressive deep passes. Bailey's arm strength, pin-point accuracy and his well-balanced movement off the snap played a huge role in his offensive success in the close battle with Lexington Christian Academy in week one.
