While there are some big names to consider for Player of the Year, plenty of players could spark their team toward a deep postseason run this fall.
We created a preseason public poll to vote on who will win Massachusetts “GATORADE” POY for 2023. Voting ended at 11:55 a.m. ET on Aug 10, 2023. The following recruits were the top five vote-getters in our Poll, that are projected by the public to win the 2023 Massachusetts P.O.Y after this season is completed.

What we know about this recruit: January 2023 – He has a good burst out of the backfield. Shows patience to follow his blocks out on the perimeter and hit the running lanes that open. Shifty and quick when running inside ISO. On defense, his physical play shines brightly. Plays with passion, grit, and high level mental toughness. Love how he flies around on defense giving blows to ball carriers. Solid Recruit.
March 2023 – He is ranked as the #2 running back in Massachusetts and also the #3 ranked running back in the New England region. He attends Dexter Southfield in Massachusetts.
He has a good burst out of the backfield. Shows very good patience to follow his blocks out on the perimeter and hit the running lanes that open. He is a shifty back with extreme quickness. Excellent burst when running inside ISO. He appears confident in his running abilities and plays fast and consistently. Has play-making ability.
He should see his recruitment interest increase during the April/Spring Evaluation period and into the summer camp season.

What we know about this recruit: March 2023 – He is ranked as the #1 linebacker in Massachusetts and the 4th ranked linebacker in New England. He attends Brooks School in Massachusetts.
Has above-average reactionary skills. Plays downhill and fills the gap nicely. He is strong enough to hold gap integrity. Has excellent quickness and speed when pursuing the ball carrier. Has very good strength and power at the point of attack. He can bend and has good ankle flexibility. He can engage and shed blocks quickly with the ability to make plays while still engaged.
Has a Div 1 offer from the University of Georgetown. Should see additional interest in spring 2023.

What we know about this recruit: He is ranked as the #9 WR in New England in the class of 2024. In view of his 2022 season film, he shows the ability and experience in rout running to get separation from defenders. Has a large frame that provides a good target with length in his arms. Catches the ball with ease and looks to get the Yards after the catch (yac). Knows when and how to effectively high top the ball in traffic to win the 50/50 balls.
July 11, 2023 – He reported that he had a great time at the Brown camp last night. I ran a new best 40-yard dash, 4.59 seconds, as well as a new best broad jump, 9’5”. August 1, 2023 – He announcd an offer from Wesleyan College and Middlebury College.

What we know about this recruit: April 2023 –rn Mason McSweeney Mason McSweeney 6’2″ | 235 lbs | TE St. John’s Prep | 2024 State NewE He is ranked as the #5 Tight-end in New England. He attends St John’s Prep (Danver) in Massachusetts.
Playing Tight-end in a premier New England program is no easy task. McSweeney has upheld the task with great production. He is a bit under the Tight-end protocal that many Div 1-2 schools like to see, but his athleticism combined with his consistent effort, aggressiveness and physical play will have many college coaches watching his development and growth potential moving forward. He has a very good burst out of his stance and he appears experienced in how to get separation from the linebackers who will try and cover him. His hands appear solid and reliable. He does this while executing crisp routes and getting to the open spot. The third clip in shows his eye and hand coordination with his ability to make difficult catches.

July 2023 – He is ranked as the #10 Offensive Lineman in class of 2024 in New England. On June 22, 2023 he announced his commitment to Old Dominion University.
