Getting Eyes On Some New Names (Pt. 1)

He's electric in about everything he does. First off, he's extremely quick. As a freshman, he finished 3rd in the D3 200M championships. At the MHSFCA Camp this May, he ran a 4.47 40. It really translates to the field, as in the return game and running the ball, he's got crazy breakaway speed. Cobey stops and changes direction on a dime and shows a ton of vision to get to the weak spot of the defense. While most of his highlights are on the offensive side of the ball, he does have a few clips of him coming up and making good hits and being a sure tackler. He has a quick burst through the hole, he runs hard downhill, and doesn't dance when he gets the ball. His moves always set his defenders up to miss, and then he gets upfield. He's got strong legs that keep chopping when he makes contact, and has the strength to always fall forward. I got to see him a couple times last year, and what really struck me was that he was a lot quicker than I imagined. I really like that he isn't really a specialist of one type of running. He can run powers between the tackles, or bounce outside and get the edge on the defense. He's a one cut guy, that doesn't like to dance around and do too much, but he is patient and follows his blocks and waits for the play to develop. He's got a great build at 6'5 215. I love his defensive ability, as he's got long arms on the edge to keep the offensive linemen out of his chest, and he keeps his outside shoulder free to turn the plays back inside. He never gets too far upfield, and has the ability to make tough plays. The only thing I can nitpick is sometimes he fires off the ball really well, and sometimes he's got a late step. His film mostly consists of camps from this offseason, but they do tell the tale that he's a hard worker, and has a really good fundamentals base. Tyler shows some quick hands, and keeps a wide base. A little inconsistent on fire off sometimes, but overall it tends to be on the quicker side. I think if he continues to add some different moves to the toolbox, and keeps working in the weight room, he could really surprise some people.
