Gar-Field behind junior running back Herman “Action” Jackson rushed for over 200 yards as a team and 5 rushing touchdowns. While Head Coach Tony Keiling was thrilled with his offense, he was very happy with his squad’s performance on defense as well. If week 1 is any indication they are firmly in line for another playoff apperance later this year.
For Unity Reed I will give them credit for not quitting and have a good chance to get their first win next week at Woodbridge (0-1). My top performers from this game are below:
The star of the night was this young man Herman “Action” Jackson as he ran over/under/around and through the Unity Reed defense. Jackson had over 20 carries for nearly 170 yards rushing with two touchdowns. The way he has been working and performing he will be a name to know in the Cardinal district. A very humble young man who has a bright future, I expect him to receive all-conference honors this year.
Abdul Whyte
Abdul Whyte
The Red Wolves defense was dominate all night long and it started up front with senior defensive end Abdul Whyte. A force off the edge who is going to be a problem for offensive lineman through the district, Whyte was in the backfield early and often last night. He accounted for 7 tackles and 1 sack and nearly blocked a punt, he was everywhere. College coaches better start paying attention, he also boast a 3.0 GPA.

Treveon Peters
Treveon Peters
While Gar-Field did not need to throw much in this game, when they did they could count on the senior wideout Treveon Peters. The Red Wolves only threw the ball only thirteen times as the ground game was clearly working, but Peters snagged 3 receptions including a 23 yard touchdown. I would expect as their season progress for him to be an integral part of the offense as he has the ability to outjump most defensive backs in the league.
Really love the fight and no quit attitude in Marcus Ferguson Marcus Ferguson 5’7″ | 150 lbs | RB Unity Reed | 2025 State VA Jr., it was clear early on that Gar-Field was keying on him and he would not back down. Despite being met in the backfield on numerous occasions the junior back was able to make plays. He had arguable the play of the night where he nearly took a kickoff return for a touchdown and found the endzone on the same drive with a 7 yard dash. Regardless of the outcome big things are ahead for Ferguson, by the way he has a 3.9 GPA!
Highlights
Has to be mentioned this sophomore is one of the best defensive lineman in the district. Grayson picked up from his honorable mention selection from a year ago, with a solid performance against a very stout Gar-Field offensive line. He accrued three tackles for losses and had a fumble recovery on the evening. The Unity Reed Lions have to be thrilled with the future of this young man, he sure looked the part in person.
