We will focus on the offensive side of the ball to start off this article. The Mavericks have experience returning at the quarterback position. [player_tooltip player_id='502978' first='Carter' last='Zimmerman'] saw action last year at the quarterback spot. Zimmerman is a dynamic athlete that can throw the ball while scrambling outside of the pocket. He can make the deep throws and connect with wide receivers. Zimmerman is athletic enough to use his legs to pick up yards on the ground.

The ground attack has several talented options that can carry the mail for the Mavericks this season. [player_tooltip player_id='257649' first='Amari' last='Tucker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='257682' first='Isaac' last='Gregory'] are two running backs that can break a game wide open. Gregory rushed for over1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns a season ago. Gregory is a patient runner that allows the rushing lane to develop. The Southside rushing attack is going to be difficult for opposing defenses to contain this season.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have experience and talent returning at the wide receiver positions as well. [player_tooltip player_id='662224' first='Greyson' last='York'] does an excellent job of using his route runner to create separation from opposing defensive backs. York amassed over 700 yards receiving off of 52 receptions. He also found the end zone 6 times last season. Will Goodman is a tall receiving threat at 6'3” that will cause plenty of problems for opposing defenses this season.

The defensive side of the ball is going to cause plenty of headaches for opposing defenses this season. [player_tooltip player_id='257684' first='John' last='Parkinson'] is a force coming off of the edge. He can completely disrupt an opposing offensive gameplan. He is an impressive pass rusher and has impressive pass rusher and has very little trouble getting into the opposing offensive backfield. [player_tooltip player_id='598413' first='Andrew' last='Reeder'] is a player that shifts from the tackle to the edge position and not lose a bit of productivity. At the linebacker position, [player_tooltip player_id='806085' first='Evan' last='Shelby'] is a force to watch out for this season. Plays with tremendous speed and tracks the ball carrier well. Meanwhile, in the secondary [player_tooltip player_id='257681' first='Devin' last='Huggins'] is a defensive back that hauls down the ball carrier and separates the ball from the ball carrier. Southside has the potential to surprise some teams this season.
