The Big North is a conference that houses many of Northern Michigan’s best teams, and it’s a conference that’s never looked better in terms of the teams they have. From the upper peninsula to Cadillac, here are five breakout candidates of the Big North!
WR | Wyatt Lakenen | Marquette | Hudl
I caught wind of Wyatt at one of Hope’s prospect camps. At this camp, Wyatt showed great route-running abilities alongside good release, hands, and overall footwork. His performance garnered him an offer from Hope, and I would not be surprised if he had an excellent season this year. His highlights showcase his good release, RAC, as well as some physical 50/50 catches.
OL/DL | Eli Lusk | Marquette | Hudl
Eli is someone who had a good season last year, earning an All-Conference honorable mention. This past offseason, he seems to have put in the work. Going to camps like NMU and MHSAA in Brighton, Eli looked like a solid lineman from what I saw of him. With the coaching he’s taken this offseason plus working out with fellow linemen like Dasan Smith, he could play extremely well this fall. I believe Eli could be a Division 3 guy in the future if he has a nice season!
TE | Grant Williams Grant Williams 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Cadillac | 2025 State MI | Cadillac | Hudl
I’ve talked about Grant once before, and everything I said a few months ago applies now. He’s an in-line TE with a well-rounded game and boundless potential. The highlight below showcases a pretty standard touchdown, though other individual highlights on his profile show a more well-rounded game. His 6’3 frame and the physicality Cadillac usually plays with makes me excited for what Grant will be able to do this fall. Work extremely hard, and he’ll be a college prospect!
DE | Korbin Sulitis Korbin Sulitis 6'2" | 200 lbs | DL Petoskey | 2025 State MI | Petoskey | Hudl
Petoskey has a few super exciting players on their team. Korbin is one of the youngest of the bunch and one with amazing potential. His film immediately shows a great getoff with an ability to work through blocks to get in the backfield. Korbin surely has the quickness and motor to become a primetime prospect. Though will have to continue working on his strength and put himself in front of prime competition to reach his potential.
RB | Ben Johnson Ben Johnson 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Escanaba | 2024 State MI | Escanaba | Hudl
Ben Johnson Ben Johnson 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Escanaba | 2024 State MI has already broken out in his area, though I feel he could earn broader attention with a great season. The newly-committed Michigan Tech RB had a phenomenal 2022 season, and his film shows it. I love Ben’s initial burst and acceleration. He reaches top speed quickly and is able to outrun most defenders. His vision is good as well, as he’s able to make something out of nothing and bounce it outside if the play breaks down. Ben is one of those guys I’ve wanted to see in person for a while, and I hope he gets some wider recognition this season.
