Continue ReadingThe Gar-Field Redwolves finished their 2022 season with a 5-6 record, which was good enough for a district playoff appearance. Unfortunately they would fall to the now State Champions of the 6A region Freedom Eagles in the first round by a very lopsided score. That being said the Redwolves really finished the season strong winning 4 out of their last 6 regular season contests. They also have a number of key returning starters that should propel them back into the playoffs for 2023:
Alexander “Bear” Labenow
Alexander “Bear” Labenow
One of the best centers in the Cardinal District and quite frankly the state Alexander “Bear” Labenow is back protecting his quarterback for 2023. Standing at 5’11 and north of 220 lbs. Labenow may not be the biggest lineman in the league but he is certainly one of the strongest. Jumping in at center last season he was credited with not 1 sack allowed, think about that for a second. Not 1 sack allowed is impressive enough considering he just started working at the position makes it even better.

Alex Keen-Forbes Jr.
Alex Keen-Forbes Jr.
Alex “Lexx” Keene-Forbes Jr. is a coaches dream and will play any position on the field if you ask him too. The honorable mention all district selection in 2022, Forbes is a pitbull hybrid linebacker/safety/corner for the Redwolves. He is one of the fastest kids in the league and has already run a 4.6 40 and 10.9 100 meter dash. The young man can play and there is no reason not to believe he wont be first team all district in 2023. He also boast a 3.4 GPA and will be an excellent defensive back in college in my opinion.

Junior to be Angel Aragon Angel Aragon 5’7″ | 205 lbs | DL Gar-Field | 2025 State VA is a somewhat undersized offensive lineman with a powerful base. Aragon is the type of lineman who if he gets you extended chances are you are going to laying on your backside.
One of the top playmakers in the Cardinal District Max Danilo Gardner is back for his senior season, looking to top his 42 reception, 6 touchdown junior campaign. Standing at 5’11 make no mistake about it this kid can play, achieving over 600 yards receiving last year. A precise route runner, Gardner is great at creating separation and bailing his quarterback out when the RedWolves need it most.

Tre Walden
Tre Walden
Junior Quarterback Tre Walden may not be the tallest qb around but that sure doesn’t mean he cant sling it. The young man throws an excellent deep ball and can make plays scrambling out of the pocket too. Really like how he extends plays and can take off at any second and leave the defense in the dust. With another year of varsity experience under his belt, I think he can be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference.

Final Thoughts:
I may be bullish but I like the Redwolves chances of finishing over .500 in 2023. They have a ton of talent returning at the skills position and Walden seems like he is transitioning very well at quarterback. Look out for Gar-Field this year, if they can start their season better than 2022, I could see them back in the playoffs once again.
