Westmoore Jaguars
Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #5
Preseason Coaches Ranking: #9
The Westmoore Jaguars are ready to take that next step and become one of the teams that people talk about in the “best from the west” category in Class 6A-1. It’s no secret that everyone in 6A-1 has been chasing the Tulsa-area schools and because of this, that specific category has been a talking point for well over a decade now. The Jaguars are looking to be that team and on paper heading into this season, they certainly have potential. They are coming off a season in which they went 2-8 in the regular season and lost to Owasso in the first round of the playoffs. Westmoore benefitted from the new rule in 6A-1 and 6A-2 where the top six teams in the district standings all make the playoffs. Otherwise, the Jaguars would have been out. This season, they’re not going to be satisfied with just making the playoffs. And looking at the Jaguars in the springtime, they could certainly make a run this fall.
Player movement is a big part of high school football but it’s nothing new. However, with the transfer portal in college football becoming more and more prevalent every year, it feels like player movement at the high school level has also picked up. The Jaguars lost a few players who moved away but they also benefited from some stars moving into the district. Those new players, combined with who the Jaguars had coming back, there are several reasons to be optimistic about this season. Six starters are back on the offensive side of the ball while another six starters are back on defense. The offense is going to be headlined by the playmakers they have in the backfield and at some of the skill positions. The defense is going to have a really strong mix between the three levels. They have talent up front that can rush the passer, linebackers who are tackling machines and a few defensive backs who are D1 caliber players. The Jaguars are in a position to be a winning team this fall.

Players To Watch
The first part of the Graham trio that moved to Westmoore this offseason was 2024 Courtney Graham Courtney Graham 6’4″ | DL Westmoore | 2024 OK at the defensive end position. Last fall, Graham finished the season with Southeast and racked up nearly 15 sacks on the season. Graham was another prospect that really stood out and passed the eye test when we saw the Jaguars this fall. While the other two Graham brothers have more of an impact on the offensive side of the ball, Graham is going to provide the Westmoore defense with a massive pass-rushing threat. The Jaguars have a very experienced linebacker crew behind him so even if he doesn’t make a play, he’s going to free things up for one of them to rack up the tackles like we saw last season many different times.
We mentioned earlier that we got a chance to see the Jaguars during the spring football season and we came away very impressed with their offense as a whole. Leading an experienced offensive line unit is 2024 lineman James Williams James Williams 6’3″ | OL Westmoore | 2024 State OK at the center position. Williams was arguably the biggest player on Westmoore’s offensive line and he was anchoring things from the center position. We also liked the leadership he played with and how vocal he was with some of the other players in the huddle. At Westmoore’s team camp, there were quite a few offensive lineman that really stood out to us but Williams was definitely on that list and he has the chance to be a steady presence as the Jaguars work in some of those new names on offense this fall.
Another dynamic Graham brother that moved in this offseason was 2024 quarterback and defensive back Micheal Graham Micheal Graham 6’0″ | ATH Del City | 2024 State OK and he’s quickly established himself as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks heading into this season. Graham was lights out the last few seasons and is going to give the Jaguars a signal caller that can do so many different things at a very high level. Last season, Graham produced at a high clip, throwing for nearly 2,500 yards and running for nearly 800 yards as a true dual-threat weapon. When we look at Class 6A-1 as a whole, Graham is going to be arguably the best athlete among the 6A-1 quarterbacks. He’s also an outstanding basketball player but before he focuses on the hardwood, he’s going to take care of business on the gridiron.
Westmoore’s Mykel Patterson-McDonald Mykel Patterson-McDonald 6’0″ | DB Westmoore | 2024 State OK was a prospect that absolutely exploded this offseason. On the final day of January, he earned his first D1 offer and that came from Oklahoma. That opened the floodgates as the offers just started rolling in after that for the Westmoore safety. He continued his strong offseason during the track season when he was dominant in the long jump. We think that this Westmoore prospect is going to be one of the more disruptive players in the state this fall. And after the offseason he’s had, we don’t think that’s a bold prediction. It will be interesting to see if the Jaguars get creative with using him in different positions or if he will stick to just the safety position this season.

2023 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 24 – Union
– Westmoore kicks off the season in week zero against Union in a showdown between one of the top teams in the class and a Westmoore team that is wanting to get into that conversation. The Jaguars are very talented on both sides of the ball and right out of the gate we’ll see how that talent does against a top three team in Union. We consider this a measuring stick game for the Jaguars to kick off the season. Their non-district slate will definitely get them ready for a tough district schedule.
Sept. 1 – AT Yukon
Sept. 8 – AT Choctaw
Sept. 22 – Moore
Sept. 29 – AT Jenks
Oct. 5 – Broken Arrow
– We mentioned “measuring stick” games with Union and here’s another one. A week after traveling to face Jenks, the Jaguars will return home to host Broken Arrow. Bixby and Jenks are the top two teams in the district heading into this season but after that, it’s anyone’s guess. That could open the door for the Jaguars to take that next step and contend for a first round bye or at the very least a home game. But in order to do that, they can’t afford to slip up in games like this against the Tigers.
Oct. 13 – Enid
Oct. 20 – Bixby
Oct. 27 – AT Norman North
Nov. 3 – Southmoore
– The Jaguars close the regular season in week ten against rival Southmoore. Westmoore was able to beat Southmoore in the final week of the regular season a year ago. And the district wins over rivals Moore and Southmoore in the first and final district games of the year allowed Westmoore to clinch the final playoff spot out of this district. And as mentioned earlier, if the Jaguars are going to finish higher in the district this season and have a better playoff seed, these games are critical.
Notable
There’s no doubt that the excitement surrounding Westmoore is real as we head into the 2023 football season. On paper, this Westmoore team looks like it could do some special things this fall based on the talent that they have on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars are hoping that it translates to playoff success and becoming that team on the west side as the “best from the west” in Class 6A-1. Since the split in Class 6A back in 2014, the Jaguars have made it to the playoffs on five occasions but have just won once and that came in 2020 when everyone was allowed to play in the playoffs. The Jaguars find themselves in a tough district and getting one of the top two seeds to clinch a first round bye is going to be tough. But the Jaguars can absolutely host a playoff game in the first round and from there, who knows what can happen.
