Leading up to the complete, 300-player list on Thursday, we will count down the top 30 in more detail.
And make sure to check back throughout the week following the release for additional features and positional breakdowns.
10. Melvin Hills III Melvin Hills III 6'4" | 265 lbs | DL Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 265 DL | Lafayette Christian
Louisiana’s next Power Five commitment — with an announcement scheduled Wednesday afternoon — remains in the top 10 of the class rankings entering senior season. Hills started earning notable playing time and looks and a stout, physical tackle playing with great leverage in the middle of the Knights’ defensive front and has continued to grow and develop into a taller, leaner and more versatile athlete on the line who can excel both stuffing the run or rushing the passer from inside or out.
9. Kylan Billiot Kylan Billiot 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Terrebonne | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 185 WR | Terrebonne (LSU)
Admission: We should’ve trusted our evaluation of Billiot last summer and been more patient with his development and recruitment. Prep Redzone Louisiana moved the multisport Terrebonne standout up to No. 4 in the class rankings last summer — including the distinction as being the cohort’s top receiver — after an impressive workout at the end of an LSU camp in early June. A relatively quiet fall, some uncertainty as to which sport was the priority and a slower start to his recruitment led to some second-guessing and a slide. But after watching more of him in person this spring and summer, hearing more on his clear commitment to football and seeing the results in a stronger build and more aggressive play, there’s no question Billiot has one of the top cases — if not the best case — as the state’s best receiving prospect.
8. Ahmad Breaux Ahmad Breaux 6'3" | 260 lbs | DL Ruston | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 250 DL | Ruston (LSU)
Another versatile defensive lineman who has continued to climb the rankings from top-30, to cusp of the top 10 and now up again to No. 8. Breaux projects as a defensive end at the next level, but has also shown the ability to give opponents fits creating push from the inside and, even as he continues to get bigger and stronger, is quick and athletic enough to drop back into space and provide some different looks there. He also seems to be embracing and growing well into the spotlight that comes with his spring LSU commitment in the ways he works, competes and carries himself with confidence.
7. Ju’Juan Johnson Ju’Juan Johnson 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA | 5-11, 180 ATH | Lafayette Christian (LSU)
The (soon-to-be) four-year starting quarterback for perennial power Lafayette Christian has felt like as much the face of Louisiana’s 2024 class the past year as anyone from his eye-popping numbers this fall — including historically so in the state championship game on the big stage of the Caesars Superdome — to his character and charisma and a recruitment of several high-profile programs nationwide battling for his commitment before ultimately landing with home-state LSU. For an athlete with limited background on defense, Johnson always looks right at home pressing receivers at the line, backpedaling with quick feet, flipping his hips and making well-timed plays on balls thrown his direction. He remains squarely in the state’s top-10 overall and has quickly become a cornerstone of the Tigers’ class.
6. Wardell Mack Wardell Mack 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB John Ehret | 2024 State LA | 6-1, 180 DB | John Ehret
The Patriots’ versatile standout — a potentially versatile defensive back at the next level — has been a top-10 prospect in the Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings throughout his high school career and remains right in the thick of that group at No. 6 in the new update to the list. Mack recently zeroed his long list of offers down to a top four of LSU, Florida, Florida State and Texas with a decision appearing to be nearing on the horizon.
5. Trey’Dez Green Trey’Dez Green 6'7" | 225 lbs | ATH Zachary | 2024 State LA | 6-7, 230 ATH | Zachary (LSU)
A lot, both from development and recruitment standpoints, have unfolded so quickly for Green since returning to the football field after years of focusing on basketball. He has continued to get stronger as he prepares for life as an SEC tight end, while also working in 7-on-7 and training settings to get in offseason reps running routes and catching passes. Also notably this summer, he transferred last month from Class 2A East Feliciana to nearby Class 5A power Zachary where he should benefit from a college preparation standpoint from the leap in competition.
4. Da’Shawn McBryde Da’Shawn McBryde 6'3" | 200 lbs | DB Denham Springs | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 195 DB | Denham Springs (LSU)
The Yellow Jackets’ quiet star debuted at No. 10 earlier this year on the heels of a breakout junior campaign and makes another notable leap up to No. 4 now heading into senior season. McBryde has some of the best, if not the best, ball skills of any prospect in Louisiana’s rising senior class on either side of the ball and showcased them throughout offseason 7-on-7 circuits as a two-way playmaker with his combination of size, timing and strong hands. And his physicality has always underrated or at least overshadowed by his big interception numbers, but he will bring a well-rounded all-around game to the field this fall in Denham Springs and just across the parish line into Baton Rouge for the coming years.
3. Kolaj Cobbins Kolaj Cobbins 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Destrehan | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 215 LB | Destrehan (LSU)
The Wildcats’ star edge rusher looks more dominant and college-ready every time out. From a cat-quick, explosive athlete starting to break out as a sophomore, working more on his coverage skills and rounding out his game overall as a junior and now being another 10-15 pounds more muscular and powerful than ever, Cobbins has continues to cement himself as one of the elite prospects in Louisiana’s 2024 class — and LSU’s. “Tut” has lived in the top five of Prep Redzone Louisiana’s rankings throughout his high school career and bumps back up a couple spots from No. 5 back up to No. 3 entering senior season.
2. Tylen Singleton Tylen Singleton 6'1" | 210 lbs | DB Many | 2024 State LA | 6-2, 210 DB | Many
The Tigers’ star safety/linebacker moves back to the No. 2 spot in the rankings after a stretch holding down No. 1. Singleton remains firmly entrenched in Prep Redzone Louisiana’s two- or three-prospect top tier as a big, physical safety — big and physical enough that he could also end up at linebacker at the next level — who covers a lot of ground with his intelligence, instincts and speed and plays the ball extremely well for major impact plays.
1. Dominick McKinley Dominick McKinley 6'5" | 275 lbs | DL Acadiana | 2024 State LA | 6-7, 270 DL | Acadiana
The big defensive lineman overtakes the top position in the class rankings entering the group’s final high school season. McKinley edges Singleton for the lead in the top tier after a strong offseason of work and recruiting with Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama and others all battling to try to pry him from LSU’s home turf. His positioning closer to the line and ball enables more consistent opportunities to make his impact, and McKinley shows the ability to maximize those in dominant fashion with his impressive athleticism at his size.
