Here are a couple teams in the 2A class that could be sleeper teams to keep an eye on.
Tumwater HS – Last Season: 9-2
Tumwater was a solid team last year, only losing 2 games during the season and one of those was in the first round of the state tournament to Sedro-Woolley. They will have quite a bit of talent returning on both sides of the ball, which will really help the squad. Key defensive lineman Alex Hach Alex Hach 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Tumwater | 2024 State WA (’24, DL) will be back to get to the QB and stuff the run. Other players coming back are, Payton Laguerre (’24, RB), Tyler Criss (’24, DB), Logan Cole (’24, RB/DB), David Malroy (’25, WR/DB), Dane Iversen Dane Iversen 6'1" | 230 lbs | LB Tumwater | 2024 State WA (’24, LB), Ethan Kastner Ethan Kastner 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Tumwater | 2024 State WA (’24, QB), and more.
WF West HS – Last Season: 10-2
WF West might not be a “sleeper” team given they were the 2nd seed in the state championship game and lost in the semi-final round to North Kitsap, 22-29. They are an extremely well coached team and have a ton of talent on the squad. They will be losing Gavin Fugate (QB) but with Gage Brumfield Gage Brumfield 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR WF West | 2025 State WA (’25, WR/DB) and Tucker STONE Land Tucker STONE Land 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB WF West | 2025 State WA (’25, RB) returning, they will bringing back 2 key playmakers who can help lead the squad once again. Carson White (’25, QB) is a name to watch as well, if he is named the starter.
Highline HS – Last Season: 10-2
Highline surprised a lot of people last season when they made the state tournament. They lost in the 2nd round to Lynden, the eventual champs. Highline will be bringing back quite a bit of talent from the team last year and they will be more experienced, which is always a great thing. Ronan Rasmussen Ronan Rasmussen 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Highline | 2025 State WA (’25, QB) will be back to again lead the team. He showed quite a bit of promise last season and should be even better this year. Nat Clay Nat Clay 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Highline | 2024 State WA (’24, DB/RB), Marquawn McCraney Marquawn McCraney 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Highline | 2024 State WA (’25, DB/WR), and Adam Estrada Adam Estrada 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR Highline | 2025 State WA (’25, WR/DB) are some other key names to keep an eye on for the squad.
Archbishop-Murphy HS – Last Season: 0-8
Now this one might surprise a lot of people but, trust me on this one. The Wildcats are going to be ready to compete within the 2A Northwest Conference. It is stacked with a plethora of solid teams but they will be able to play teams tough. They were a very young team and will have quite a few players who have varsity experience under their belts, coming back. Diontaye Moorman Diontaye Moorman 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Archbishop Murphy | 2024 State WA (’24, DB) will arguably be the teams best player on the roster next season and should be a top player in the state as well. Isaak Smith (’24, ATH) is a name to keep an eye on as he can play many positions. Some other names to keep an eye on are Javen Latta (’27, WR/DB), Inoke Pomale Inoke Pomale 6'4" | 335 lbs | OL Bothell | 2026 State WA (’26, OL), Hakeim Smalls Hakeim Smalls 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Archbishop Murphy | 2026 State WA (’26, DL), Jonah Wilson (’24, RB), Mateen Usui Mateen Usui 6'7" | 195 lbs | WR Archbishop Murphy | 2025 WA (’25, WR), Jack Sievers Jack Sievers 6'5" | 220 lbs | ATH Archbishop Murphy | 2026 State WA (’26, TE/DL), and Traevon Phifer Traevon Phifer 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Archbishop Murph | 2025 State WA (’25, ATH). Be on the lookout for the ‘Cats.
