Region 1 is home to some of the state's most underrated teams. These three programs will all surprise people when they take the field this fall.

Weber Warriors

Weber will be a tough out for every opponent they face this year. The receiving core of [player_tooltip player_id='717883' first='Salesi' last='Moa'], [player_tooltip player_id='681360' first='Braylon' last='Parker'], and [player_tooltip player_id='212442' first='Stanford' last='Small'] will be incredibly challenging for any defense to contain. Moa is our highest-rated receiver in the class of 2026 and could lead the state in multiple receiving categories this fall. The running back tandem of [player_tooltip player_id='875522' first='Nakosi' last='Swain'] and [player_tooltip player_id='911029' first='Dyson' last='Parker'] will be one of the state's best, with both being able to break off big plays on any given snap. Tight end [player_tooltip player_id='705533' first='Tyler' last='Payne'] and offensive linemen [player_tooltip player_id='698552' first='Benjamin' last='McMurrin'] will also play a big role in the Warriors success. Head Coach Jayson Anderson and Weber will be a contender for the Region 1 title this year.

Fremont Silverwolves

In Head Coach Clay Bayard's first year, the Silverwolves improved drastically over the course of the season, culminating in a first-round playoff victory. Looking ahead to 2023, Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='698242' first='Brant' last='Koford'] and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='706535' first='Parks' last='Benson'] lead a tenacious defense. Koford is one of the top linebackers in the class of 2025. His elite combination of speed and physicality is a nightmare for offensive coordinators to game plan for. Benson possesses good hips and times his pass breakups perfectly. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='718013' first='Slade' last='Parker'] and running back Taylor Grahm are back to lead the offense. Both players made memorable plays last year and will undoubtedly make even more in 2023.

Layton Lancers

The Lancers are tough to beat every year, and 2023 will be no exception. Running back Porter Cannon is ready for a bigger role and should keep the chains moving all year long. He can make plays in the run and pass game, where his quick feet help him evade tacklers. Tight end Easton McMillian is a potent blocker and pass catcher. He's tough to bring down and runs hard after the catch. Defensive linemen Jesse Chatelain is back after terrorizing quarterbacks in 2022. He and the Lancers loaded defense will make life hard on every offense they encounter this year. Head Coach Trevor Thomas and Layton should be in for a productive season.
