Yesterday Prep Redzone Kansas shined the spotlight on defensive linemen in the Class of 2025.

Today's update on the 2025 rankings features the wide receiver position.

No part of the game has changed more since my playing days than the usage of the wide receiver in the passing game. Eighties football was all about the running game. Now in 2023 teams can't have enough weapons to use in the passing game.

Here is a look at five pass-catching weapons in the Kansas Class of 2025 rankings which were updated earlier in the week. These five athletes have not been featured as often as some of their peers at the position in Kansas and each brings something unique to the table as an offensive threat.

[player_tooltip player_id='371108' first='Daisean' last='Bennett'], WR, 6'3”, 200, Shawnee Mission Northwest (No. 18)

Bennett has a great pair of hands and solid ball skills. He has a big frame that creates a big target. He is a physical receiver who can also block downfield. He is currently the fifth-highest-ranked wide receiver in the Kansas Class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='352452' first='Teryn' last='Jackson'], WR, 5'9”, 150, Bishop Miege (No. 21)

Jackson is a burner. He has impressive speed and can beat defensive backs down the field. Once he catches the ball, he has excellent breakaway speed. He should see an increase in playing time and the number of targets he gets at Bishop Miege this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='868979' first='Jace' last='Kerley'], WR, 6'0”, 170, Paola (No. 76)

Kerley is a solid possession receiver. He can move the sticks by making high-pressure receptions. The Paola prospect has a solid combination of size and speed. Most importantly he is not afraid to run routes over the middle of the field and take a hit after the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id='873161' first='Caden' last='Huffman'], WR, 5'11”, 170, Blue Valley Southwest (No. 101)

Huffman is a playmaker. He made 39 receptions and four touchdowns during his sophomore season. He is a weapon in the return game and he can run end-around plays. He can line up anywhere on the field and be a weapon. He is also a guy I could see being a “Wildcat” quarterback.

[player_tooltip player_id='281971' first='Bralin' last='Preston'], WR, 5'11”, 170, Lawrence Free State (No. 111)

Preston is a strong football player. He has long arms and excellent blocking skills. He can catch balls and is a weapon on offense. I am not sure his future is at the wide receiver position. He looks like a strong safety or outside linebacker to me. He has two years of high school left to get even stronger and evolve his game. There is no doubt he can play college football.
