Jaxon Pate
Jaxon Pate
Pate is the incumbent for the OPOY. The 2022 OPOY accounted for close to 2400 yards with both his arm and legs last season, guiding the Phoenix to the playoffs in AAAA. He will be entering his 3rd season as the starting QB at Sonoraville. He has thrown for 3933 yards and rushed for 1287 yards with 53 total touchdowns over the last 2 seasons. Good athlete that plays PG in basketball and is an All Region baseball player. Excels in the classroom with a 4.0 gpa and a 29 ACT score.
Devan Powell
Devan Powell
6’2 170 dual threat QB for the Lions put up some impressive numbers in ’22. He passed for 1733 yards with 17 touchdowns with a game high 227 on 10 of 11 attempts with 4 touchdowns in a 1st Round playoff win over Madison County. Powell added 561 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns on the season. Accurate passer with a real smooth delivery that can stretch the defense with his legs. Has an offer from Alabama State.
The 6’0 182 WR is back for his Senior year after leading the 7AAAA in receiving yards in ’22. He had 58 receptions for 808 yards with 4 touchdowns with a game-high 127 yards on 8 catches verse Sonoraville. He is a sure handed receiver with outstanding foot work and a great route runner that doesn’t mind catching the ball in traffic. Officially timed at 4.49 in the 40 and and has a 4.0 gpa. Has an offers from Army, Lehigh , Dartmouth and Eastern Kentucky. He will be a steal pick up for somebody in February.
Highlights
Max Owens
Max Owens
The 6’4 188 WR/FS is a dark horse candidate for OPOY this season on 7AAAA. He only had 13 catches last season but was very productive averaging over 24 yards a catch and scored 4 touchdowns. With the loss of several Seniors from the General’s WR core, Owens should be WR1 this season. Good hands with an athletic frame. 3 sport athlete that excels on the baseball diamond.
Others to Watch
Keegan Townsend (’24 Sonoraville):
The 5’10 only had 15 catches in ’22 but averaged close to 30 yards a reception. With Pate at QB airing it out this guy has the chance to put up some big numbers in ’23.
Tae Harris Tae Harris 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Cedartown | 2025 State GA (’25 Cedartown):
Harris, the UGA DB commit, only had 15 touches last year on the offensive side of the ball but was very productive. Accounted for 372 yards, 22 yards per touch, with 5 touchdowns. Wouldn’t be surprised to see his touches pick up this year with the Bulldogs losing 3700 yards of offense to graduation.
Isaiah Foster (’24 NW Whitfield):
Possession receiver in ’22 for the Bruins. Had 36 total receptions and went over the 100 yard mark in two games. Has pull away speed if he gets behind you.
