This class is going to be one of the best ones to watch in the state of Mississippi this year. A lot of schools are going to want to be after the throne now that Picayune has left. There are going to still be a lot of familiar names around. It will be interesting to see who is going to hold up the gold ball in December.

West Point Greenwave

We all know that West Point is looking to return to the state championship game for the eighth season in a row. They have what it takes to get that done. [player_tooltip player_id='344052' first='Kahnen' last='Daniels'] is going to be running the ball all over the field the same way he has the last two seasons. [player_tooltip player_id='503391' first='Coledan' last='Carter'] is going to be their man in the secondary. [player_tooltip player_id='652987' first='Bryson' last='Wells'] is going to hold down the defense. He is the guy that calls the shots. Zayvian Lowery is the senior leader on their defense. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't back in the state title game again.

Laurel

We all know that Laurel has a lot they want to say about West Point making it back to the state championship. This is going to be a big year for Laurel. They have a chance to get over the hump without worrying about Hattiesburg or Picayune. The south is wide open for them. They have a very good secondary with [player_tooltip player_id='910016' first='Anthony' last='Rogers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1118942' first='Rashayd' last='McGruder'] holding things down. Their defense is going to be very stout.

Holmes County Central Jaguars

The Jaguars are another squad that has been trying to get over the hump over the last few years. This year they don't have to worry about Ridgeland or Vicksburg being right in their way. They do have to worry about West Point. They have a lot of talent on their team to lean on. [player_tooltip player_id='648934' first='Cortez' last='Thomas'] and [player_tooltip player_id='616681' first='Terrance' last='Hibbler'] are going to be the big dogs on defense. They will be banking on [player_tooltip player_id='691273' first='Gavin' last='Howard'] to make some noise on offense behind the great blocking of [player_tooltip player_id='691274' first='Donel' last='Robinson']. This team should have a good season.

Clarksdale Wildcats

Clarksdale has a nice squad to work with. I'm anxious to see how they are going to be doing in the quarterback department. [player_tooltip player_id='616683' first='Patrick' last='Broomfield'] is going to be holding things together for them in the secondary. They are going to have a very stout defense. That is a tradition in the city of blues. I look for the them to have a nice season.

5A is going to be tricky this season in the south. I'm interested to see how things play out.
