Continue ReadingPassaic Tech is one of my favorite teams in NJ entering the 2023 season. Going 11-3 in 2022, Passaic Tech made a strong push for a state title before falling to Toms River North in the finals. The team beat Union City in the sectional final last season, but will look to take that next step forward and take hope the state title this fall.
Trashon Dye Trashon Dye 6’0″ | 195 lbs | RB Passaic | 2024 State NJ is a straight up dog. A focal point for this team, Trashon is one of the biggest returning leaders in NJ for 2023. He is one of the best all around athletes in the state, as he excels as a running back and linebacker. As a runner, Trashon has the combination of speed and strength to dominate at the high school level. He throws defenders off of him and is off to the races. With 1276 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, don’t be surprised if he makes his way to the end zone a few more times next season.
Trashon is not a linebacker you want to get tackled by. He is aggressive to the ball carrier and drive them into the ground. Accumulating 138 tackles, 4 sacks and forcing 4 fumbles, he is going to blow up any play at the line and will bring a lot of hurt to anyone coming his direction. The opponent will not get to the outside quicker than him. He will out run them as a ball carrier and bring them to the ground as a tackler as well.
Travon is another Dye you have to watch out for in 2023. Another Passaic Tech athlete that dominates on both sides of the ball, Travon flourishes specifically on defense. As an outside linebacker/edge rusher, Travon brought in 53 total tackles and 4.5 sacks last season. He is a sprinter off of the edge position and gets to the runner before he knows what’s coming. Travon fires off of the line, quickly recognizes the play direction, and makes a play on it. He is an enemy to all offensive coordinators and makes it very difficult for any offense to get to the outside. He penetrates the line and gets into the backfield and will either disrupt the pulling guards path or take the runner to the ground.
Travon is also a bulldozer as a runner, and ran for 304 yards and 8 touchdowns last fall.
Passaic Tech already has one of the most dominant run games in the state, and I think their pass game will makes some big strides forward in 2023 with Ma’Kao Taylor at the helm. Ma’Kao is about to turn heads in 2023 as he shows off his deep arm talent and run capabilities. With over 750 offensive yards through the air and ground and 5 touchdowns, Ma’Kao is a threat in the pocket and on the run.
As a passer, he is reliable to make some big time, deep ball throws. He has a powerful arm and has the accuracy to put the ball through small windows. Ma’Kao can even evade defenders in the pocket and tuck it an run if need be.
Highlights
Another player from Passaic Tech that dominates on both of the ball is Cashmere Jones Cashmere Jones 5’7″ | 145 lbs | ATH Passaic Tech | 2024 State NJ . With over 1000 all purpose yards and 6 touchdowns, Cashmere was a major threat for any team trying to slow him down. As I’ve mentioned before, he has some of the fastest acceleration in the state. He will make guys misjudge their angles and dart right by. He is a player I see playing a pivotal role possibly from the slow receiver position in the future. On defense, Cashmere flew all over the field brought in 111 tackles, forced 2 fumbles, and intercepted the ball 2 times as well. He is a star on both sides of the ball and deserves some more recognition in 2023.
If you are looking for one of NJ’s deadliest tandems off of the edge, look no further than Passaic Tech’s Travon Dye Travon Dye 6’1″ | 215 lbs | LB Passaic Tech | 2024 NJ and Kaiden Rex Kaiden Rex 6’3″ | 195 lbs | DL Passaic Tech | 2024 NJ . Another explosive player off of the edge, Kaiden brought in 69 tackles, 5.5 sacks and forced a fumble in 2022. As he comes off of the edge, he stays low and rounds the corner well to get to the QB before the tackle can get in his path. You need multiple blockers to try to get a handle of Kaiden. He shakes off blockers by throwing their hands off of him or by delivering major blows. Kaiden puts in all out effort when plays go the opposite direction, and he is eager to chase the QB or runner down from behind. We are looking at a double digit sack season in 2023 for Kaiden.
