However, their dreams of a state title fell short when they went up against Toms River North in the Group 5 semifinals. Edison is returning one of the best 2025 running backs in the state and exceptional talent on the defensive side of the ball. There will be a lot of holes to fill for this team, but they have the potential to do great things starting in September.
Nyekir Eato Nyekir Eato 5’11” | 175 lbs | RB Edison | 2025 NJ is one of my favorite running backs from the NJ class of 2025. With an impressive sophomore campaign, Nyekir dominated his opponents as he ran for 1249 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Nyekir has developed a running style that is very transferable to the next level. When the ball is in his hands, he patiently lets the play develop and makes the smartest move possible. You won’t see him wasting time dancing around or hitting a hole too quickly, he knows when the best time to strike is. To accompany his speed he also carries a strong presence and is able to truck defenders when he sees fit. Nyekir is ready to catch every scout’s attention in 2023.
Ricky Harvey
Ricky Harvey
A tall, deep threat for Edison, Ricky is ready to make some big time catches in 2023. With 407 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in 2022, Ricky is looking to up those numbers quite a bit. A quick accelerator on the field, Ricky is built like a sprinter but is elusive enough to make guys miss when he moves laterally. He is a fluid cutter when the ball is in his hands and is a nightmare for all defenses, especially in the screen game. Once he has those blockers out in front, he will use his quickness to dodge in and out of blockers as he evades the nearest defender. A straight up reliable pass catcher, Ricky is going to have a big year this fall.
Sebastian Vera
Sebastian Vera
With 42 total tackles and 4 sacks last season, Sebastian was a prime example of the type of nose tackle you hope to have on your defense. He has game changing capabilities, and will play a prominent role for Edison in 2023. A player that can bull rush offensive linemen, Sebastian will drive them straight into the backfield and disrupt the flow of the offense. He uses his hands when shedding blockers and is able to essentially throw them to the side to get to the runner. Sebastian can clog up any running lane and won’t give up an inch once the ball carrier is in his grasp. With great size, Sebastian is hard to move and will continue to make blocking him a challenge.
Tori’ahn Rattray
Tori’ahn Rattray
Tori’ahn is Edison’s ball hawking safety. With 3 interceptions last season, Tori’ahn made it very challenging for any QB to have success throwing his direction. He hovers over the center of the field and leaves very little separation once the receiver is in his vicinity. Tori’ahn has great length and reach, and is able to snag the ball out of the air. He is also equipped with a powerful upper body that allows him to tear the ball out of receiver’s hands. While Tori’ahn is most impressive in pass coverage, he also makes a big impact in the run game as well. He is able to make his way up field quickly and stop any further progress by the runner.
