We've got 5 elite defensive linemen in the 2024 class we're looking at today! All 5 are not only set to be ranked when it updates but all 5 will be highly ranked recruits that I think are just scratching the surface of their potential.

Clark is the type of defensive lineman that every coach loves to have. He's got a relentless motor and does a great job just being consistent in creating pressure or disrupting at or near the backfield. He's very instinctive and just has a good feel for what's happening in front of him. He's also a fairly good athlete that doesn't get the credit he should. He had a play last year where he tipped a ball and laid out to catch it for the interception. He can collapse the edge of the line and restrict running lanes. He's tough, lengthy, and much more physical than some linemen anticipate. He's also got a nice swim move that helps him break free and get home to make the tackle. Clark has quite a few raw tools, but then that "IT" factor where he just knows how to make the play. He's been crucial for Crown Point's defense since he stepped on the field and that shouldn't change anytime soon. Clark will have no problem finding a home at the next level and wherever he lands, they're getting a difference-maker.

[player_tooltip player_id='868579' first='Grey' last='Hostetler'] - Bloomington North - 6'5" 245lbs

Hostetler is coming off a great year, especially for a first-year player. There's no way when you watch his tape that you'd guess he's a first-year player and just learning the ropes. He's a good athlete who can't be held back when he's coming after the ball. His 6'5" is the first advantage he's got when he's out there. He's got the first reach and dictates most reps from that alone. Add in his strength and creative ability to find ways to get home, and he's quite the problem. Last year, mind you his first year playing football, Hostetler put up 65 total tackles, 8.5 TFLs, 1 sack, 3 deflected passes, a forced fumble, and a forced safety. He was all over the field for them and then made an impact at the same time while he was just trying to learn what he was supposed to do. Hostetler is just scratching the surface of his potential and should be a favorite target for schools who know they can develop players because he could be a problem on Saturdays.

[player_tooltip player_id='542025' first='Collin' last='Foy'] - Hanover Central - 6'4" 280lbs

Foy is one of the last defensive linemen that people want to line up against on Fridays. He's got a great frame and then is a surprisingly quick player who can chase down the ball carrier from behind. With that size and speed then comes the strength. Sometimes, it's like he's just bullying others out there as he moves them out of the way. He's able to bullrush and come straight at an interior lineman, or move to the outside and collapse the pocket and cause issues in the running game. Last year alone, he put 76 tackles, 15 TFLs, 4.5 sacks, and caused 2 fumbles. Guys with Foy's size are rare. Guys with his size and athletiscm are even rarer. Guys with his size, athletic ability, and relentless effort are diamonds in the rough. The way he's able to use his frame and strength is just different. Wherever Foy ends up, I think he could make an impact much sooner than later and they'll be over the moon they can just pluck elite talent from Hanover Central.

[player_tooltip player_id='813176' first='Reid' last='Hardin'] - Lawrence Central - 6'2" 230lbs

Hardin is coming off of a breakout season where he proved his value on the edge. He does a great job coming off the edge and rushing the passer. He's athletic and flexible which allows him to bend and be creative with how he's working the lineman across from him. He's strong enough to stand in there, deal with the running game, get off blocks, and make the tackle. Nothing fancy there, but so important to the success of any team. Having someone like Hardin who can play the run and rush the passer is a big win for any defense. Last year he put up 53 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 3 sacks, and forced a fumble. A stellar season with how he was creating pressure and getting into the backfield. He's not a 1 trick pony that forces the defense's hand with personnel. He's versatile and still learning. Hardin is an easy bet for a guy to make the next level and then make an impact there.

[player_tooltip player_id='373127' first='Marvin' last='Mcclinton'] - Muncie Central - 6'2" 220lbs

Mcclinton is heading into his senior year with a bar set so high that if he had a "down" year it would still be a career year for most other guys. He's able to make an impact on the inside and the outside. He can move around and find the matchup mismatch and start picking away. He's always in the backfield and if he's not, he'll run down the ball carrier. If they try bouncing the ball to the outside, he's able to run stride for stride with the ball carrier and eliminate positive yardage. He's quick and rangy enough that he could be a LB, but he's so good near the LOS and creating losses for the offense it's hard to pull him away from that. Last year alone, he had 73 total tackles, 22 TFLs, 2 sacks, 8 hurries, and 2 forced fumbles. He was consistently doing 1 thing. Getting in the backfield and blowing up game plans. Mcclinton heads into his senior year with the potential to build upon what he did, but also potentially set records for Muncie Central. He's a fantastic recruit that is going to make some coaches look smart on Saturdays, that's for sure.
