Liam Guthrie || DB || 6’3 || 185 || Sky View High School || 2025
Guthrie can play anywhere on the backend. Need him to come down and cover receivers on the outside; Guthrie can do it. He’s also an elite safety who can protect the backend or come down and play in the box. Gurthie’s got great hands, and if quarterbacks make a mistake, he can make them pay. He possesses exceptional speed that allows him to cover sideline to sideline. Gurhtie plays the ball well in the air and times his pass breakups well. He’s also a dynamic receiver and could be making big plays on both sides of the ball for Sky View this Fall.

It was easy to overlook Benson last season because offenses rarely tried him. When they did, it resulted in a negative play nearly every time. Benson is comfortable getting in receivers’ faces, and he does a good job jamming them at the line. He has excellent hips and feet that help him easily change direction with the receiver he’s covering. In addition to his shutdown coverage, Benson is also an elite run defender. He takes good angles to limit running backs’ yardage and is skilled at making tackles in space.
Kalvin Floyd || DB || 6’2 || 175 || Mountain View High School || 2025
Floyd could be a two-way star for Mountain View in 2023. He shined at receiver last fall and could also be a disruptive force on the defensive side of the ball. Floyd’s long arms help him to bat passes away or pick them off before receivers can even get their fingers on the ball. He’s an elite athlete with good speed. Because of his potent pass-catching skills, Floyd can make spectacular adjustments on the ball to intercept them. He doesn’t let wide receivers get behind him and is a great last line of defense.

Some defensive backs only like to cover, but they don’t like to hit. Wood is not one of those corners. He flies upfield on screen passes and can crush pass catchers to make big plays for his team. Wood does a good job getting around or through receivers trying to block him. His closing speed is exceptional, as is his ability to make tackles in space. Wood has an elite football IQ and does a good job reading quarterbacks when playing zone coverage. Look for Wood to force offenses to bring out the punt team several times this season.
