The 6’3” 220 lb. Montana State commit is an active defender with a quick trigger and plus athleticism. He’s got a long frame with growth potential on his side to add weight without sacrificing his speed or lateral agility. He’s quick to recognize run/pass and does a good job diagnosing plays to disrupt as they develop. Flashes good short area speed to close space on the ball carrier and is smart with his attack angles with limited wasted movement. Good ability to shed blocks, can use his hands to fight through contact and not allow blockers to get into his body. A sure tackler in space and wraps up finishing every play to the ground. Recruiting took off this past spring with offers coming in from Columbia, Eastern Washington, and Idaho before committing to Montana State in mid July. Solid foundational skillset with his best football ahead of him.
Tuaoa is violent defender with a strong compact frame at 6’1” 230 lbs. He shows plus reactionary quickness and lateral agility to redirect and make plays sideline to sideline. An aggressive run stopper that plays with leverage and is powerful at the POA finishing and exploding through contact. Natural strength in both his hands and lower half allow him to take on and defeat blockers with hard initial contact and leverage, has the ability to stack and knock back lead blockers. He’s a high effort player that is relentless in pursuit and plays until the whistle. Makes a ton of plays at or behind the LOS. Positional versatility is plus with his ability to play off the ball or as an edge rusher. Committed to Air Force in June over an offer from Minot State.
Scanlan is an instinctual defender that has continued to show great year over year improvement throughout his career at Yelm. At 6’3” 245 lbs. he’s been able to fill out and add good weight to his frame while maintaining his athleticism and mobility. From the edge he can be extremely effective in a two point or with his hand in the dirt. He’s fast off the ball with an explosive first step out of his stance and flashes quick hands to maintain separation from blockers. A very savvy defender that plays downhill and is able to beat blocks with his quickness or his strength at the contact point. He plays physical, aggressive, and full speed bringing good thump through every tackle. Possesses a variety of moves at his disposal. Picked up an offer from Idaho after a strong camp and committed shortly after.
Strong natural football player that is an impact player on both sides of the ball for Battleground. Good playmaking ability and game awareness, processes his reads quickly and puts himself in position to be a difference maker. Effectively plays both the run and the pass, is able to step up and fill gaps between the tackles and can also drop back into zone coverage and use his instincts to anticipate and play the ball in the air. Good all around game speed and lateral mobility to weave through traffic avoiding blockers on his way to make a tackle. Strong open field tackler that can break down in space and finish through contact. Voted team MVP and First Team All-League LB as a junior. Has pulled in offers from Lewis and Clark and Puget Sound thus far but wouldn’t be surprised to see more offers come his way at the recruiting cycle progresses.
