WV Preseason Spotlight: Marion County (Part Two)

Today will be part two of Marion County. The 6'1 205 rising senior has been one of the best contested catch receivers that I have evaluated so far this year. Frey made some of the most incredibly athletic and acrobatic receptions and interceptions that I've seen from a high school player last season. He has good size and enough speed to play receiver at the next level. Frey high points the ball very well and knows when to time his jumps. He's the receiver that you want to get the ball to on third downs that will make the tough catches and get you the first down. With as good as he was at receiver last year he may have been even better at cornerback. Frey was a ballhawk all last season and picked off 6 passes. The 5'11 160 rising senior shined on both sides of the ball last year and could play either position at the next level. On offense, Cheriza is a versatile receiver that can play inside or outside and do damage at either position. He showed he has some speed and can make plays after the catch. He also has some twitch to him and can make defenders miss for extra yards which you always love to have in a receiver. Cheriza can help you at all levels of the passing game and can take a screen pass the distance or beat you over the top. Brown is a very big target at 6'3 215 and the Bees used his size to stretch the field last season. At that size, I could see him bulking up to be a tight end at the next level but he is a big play receiver in high school. Averaging nearly 20 yards per catch, Brown did most of his damage on go balls as a junior but ran curl routes well when the defensive backs would sag off of him. Brown also showed the ability to make contested catches and use his length and size to his advantage. Martin is another athlete who is a standout at receiver and defensive back and could play either in college. The 2025 prospect had a productive sophomore season for the Huskies but will look to have a breakout year in 2022 for his junior season. I really liked the speed and quickness that he showed as a sophomore and he has a nice burst at the beginning of his routes. Martin plays really fast and flies around the field which you love to see in a young player not showing hesitance. He has some playmaking ability after the catch and can make defenders miss. He's also not afraid to get physical on defense and stick his nose in there to make a tackle. The 5'9 165 rising junior was one of the best sophomore playmakers in 2022 averaging over 21 yards per catch and showed he has some great playmaking ability after the catch. Dinger is an explosive athlete who is really quick and fast and has the twitch that you love to have in a receiver. Even as a smaller receiver, the Polar Bears relied on him on the outside and he showed he could really stretch the field or work the intermediate and short routes. If he gets a step on a defender he likely will not be caught by most defensive backs in the state. Dinger was just as much of a playmaker on defense too from his safety position.
