Graves appears to be the leader in one of the state's more intriguing quarterback competition. The rising senior worked against rising junior [player_tooltip player_id='144904' first='Cortland' last='Brownfield'] in the spring and is now alternating games with new 2025 arrival Emile Piccarella, following the standout's move from Mississippi. The Cubs are loaded with the talent — and seemingly the drive and work ethic — to make a run back to state championship contention, making the opportunity to earn the quarterback reps potentially all the more significant and pressure-filled. Graves started Wednesday's first game and looked sharp, but both players had their moments in the early stages of a long offseason with official kick-off still months away.

[player_tooltip player_id='677673' first='Laramie' last='Guidry'] — 6-6, 240 TE/DL — University Lab (2024)

Another new face for the Cubs is already getting college looks on both sides of the ball. Guidry is adjusting to his new school and team for his upcoming senior season after playing most of his high school career at crosstown rival Dunham. The 7-on-7 format is providing offseason reps at tight end, where Guidry said some in-state schools are envisioning him for the next level, while he said out-of-state programs have talked to him more about his college fit at defensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id='144904' first='Cortland' last='Brownfield'] — 5-11, 175 QB — Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) (2025)

The rising junior quarterback is now across town with the Panthers after spending the first half of his high school career at University Lab. Brownfield transitions from the quarterback battle with Graves and Piccarella to now hoping to push Myron Nelson and, regardless of how those reps play our this fall, seemingly being the favorite to start as a senior. While any transfer involves adjustment, Brownfield grew up around the Southern Lab teams that Woodlawn coach Marcus Randall and his father, Corey Brownfield, helped lead back to state championship berths in the mid-2010s and has a good rapport with several of his new coaches and teammates.

Myron Nelson — 6-3, 160 QB — Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) (2024)

The Panthers' three-sport athlete has long been the heir-apparent to the offense with the graduation of former star and LSU signee Rickie Collins. As mentioned above, Nelson will now be working to hold off new arrival Brownfield, but has the benefit of seniority both in age and within the program. Randall, offensive coordinator Tramon Douglas and company liked what they saw from Nelson this fall as the JV starter and in some varsity opportunities, and he's a player to whom his teammates have gravitated. Wednesday's performance for the offense was hit-or-miss, but Nelson and Panthers hit some encouraging strikes downfield to help highlight the day.

[player_tooltip player_id='901570' first='Jarius' last='Wright'] — 5-10, 165 ATH — Port Allen (2024)

The Pelicans' versatile and veteran athlete, who has lined up all over the offensive and defensive formations, will be an addition to the next round of Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings. Wright recently picked up his first college offer from Grambling State.
