COLUMBIA | Over 270 high school players from throughout the Southeast were invited to Williams-Brice Stadium Friday afternoon for the final day of the Shane Beamer Offensive Lineman/Defensive Lineman camp.

With Gamecock assistant coaches and some current players coordinating the various drills over the five-hour session, the participants got an opportunity to hone their skills in a college environment.

The camps also served as a way for the staff to evaluate potential future talent. Safety Nick Emmanwori of Irmo and wide receivers Zavier Short of Chapin and Kylic Horton of Clarendon Hall are among recent examples of players who left a South Carolina camp with scholarship offers.

The fourth and final OL/DL Camp saw two rising juniors whose level of play and physical attributes earned them offers before arriving on campus. They were defensive linemen [player_tooltip player_id='809742' first='Amare' last='Adams'] of South Florence and Jared Smith of Spain Park High School in Hoover, Ala.

From his 6-foot-3, 287-pound fame to his imposing 80-inch wingspan and posting the highest broad jump, Adams' physical presence was enough to catch the coaches' eye. He then displayed aggressiveness, toughness, and stamina during individual and one-on-one drills to confirm why he's Prep Redzone South Carolina's No. overall player for the Class of 2025.

“It's just a blessing, but I've just got to get better, keep competing every day, keep getter better every day,” said Adams, who also has offers from Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

(Smith is the sixth-ranked overall player and second-ranked defensive lineman in the Prep Redzone Alabama Class of 2025 rankings.)

Sophomore Offensive lineman Evan Goodwin of Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Ark. was paired up against Adams in a one-and-one drill. While holding his own, he said the camp experience taught him about the “violence” necessary to play offensive line at the college level.

It's a message which clearly resonated with Adams.

“It means I've really got to push myself to get to the next level because it's right in front of my hands. I've just got to work hard every day," he said.

Other ranked Prep Redzone South Carolina linemen who looked to put themselves in position for future calls from colleges:

DT Hampton O'Donald (West Ashley) and Zack Tyler (Pinewood Prep) – both ran a camp-fast 40-yard-dash time of 5.1 seconds.

DT [player_tooltip player_id='589058' first='Justin' last='Joe'] (South Florence)

DE/OLB [player_tooltip player_id='367827' first='Bristol' last='Biegenzahn'] (West Ashley)
