Back with more Neb Preps Se7en Standouts! This time I am highlighting some of the youngsters in attendance. The tournament helped me get a good look at some of the talent in the loaded younger classes. Some underclassmen are building on strong freshman seasons while others were looking to stand out as they battle for varsity spots.
Check out my “Youngster” standouts featuring some of the top underclassmen at the tournament.
Araf Evans Jr. Araf Evans Jr. 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Millard North | 2026 State NE | 2026 | DB | Bellevue West | 6’0″ 183 lbs
– Araf looked very sharp on the field during the two-day tournament, leaving no doubt why teams like Penn State and Texas A&M have already offered him.
– He’s a versatile defender that can play safety, corner, nickel, etc. I’m not sure if I saw any offensive reps from Araf, but he can definitely get the job done on that side of the ball too.
– 7 is a very physical defender that uses his hands and body very well to disrupt passes. He also has great timing with his hands, getting them up at the right moment to bat the ball away without drawing the penalty.
– Great range and closing speed from anywhere on the field. When at safety he played a great field general, communicating with teammates and calling out offensive schemes.
– Scary defender to watch as we head into 2023!
Avry Harris Avry Harris 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Omaha Central | 2026 NE | 2026 | WR | Omaha Central | 6’0″ 170 lbs
– Even with all the talent on the Omaha Central squad, sophomore Avry Harris Avry Harris 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Omaha Central | 2026 NE still managed to stand out during the two days.
– Avry’s release off the ball and ability to hit top gear quickly make him such a dangerous deep-threat receiver. He consistently sells vertical at the beginning of his routes and forces defenses to adjust, yet they still have trouble trying to contain him.
– He can track the ball very well and has the speed to close ground to get under the pass.
– Avry is not just a one-route type of receiver either as he can work all levels of the field and can do a lot of damage if you get him the ball in open space.
Amarion Jackson Amarion Jackson 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Millard South | 2026 State NE | 2026 | WR | Millard South | 6’1″ 175 lbs
– The Amarion and Jett connection is shaping up to be a very prolific one in the upcoming years. Thomalla constantly looked for Jackson when all other targets were covered.
– Very good field and situational awareness. He was very conscious of where the sticks were and would find ways to get open near the first down marker. Helped keep drives alive.
– Amarion made some very tough contested catches, especially in the red zone where he won several 50/50 balls with defenders draped on him.
– Jackson runs great routes with excellent footwork and explosiveness from his release to the break-off point.
Khalil “Champ” Davis | 2026 | WR/DB | Omaha North | 5’10” 170 lbs
– Champ continues to show why the Huskers were so quick to offer him. Two-way star on the come-up!
– On offense, he is a dangerous receiver that can take quick catch-and-run receptions for long gains and he has the speed to get behind a defense for the deep ball.
– Davis made some great receptions that required a great deal of strength to hold on through contact while adjusting his body to stay in bounds.
– Champ sees the game very well and possesses a high football IQ that allows him to make plays on offense and defense.
– Defensively, another very physical defensive back. He is a very strong player that can jam receivers at the line, battle in the air for the ball, and can fight through rub attempts.
– One of those players that hardly ever seems to be out of position on offense or defense. Very well polished at this stage in his prep career.
Logan Kracht Logan Kracht 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Millard West | 2026 State NE | 2026 | QB | Gretna East | 6’0″ 150 lbs
– I’ve had the opportunity to watch the Griffins a few times this month and I can say he’s impressed with his poise at a young age.
– There are still some aspects of the game that he’s working on but for the most part shows great arm talent.
– He was able to distribute the ball to all levels of the field and even showed nice touch and accuracy on his deep balls.
– Does a good job moving through his reads and will throw the safe ball instead of forcing it into tight coverage.
