Seriously, this camp had the most quality and quantity of QBs I’ve seen from a college camp. It’s extremely rare that there’s enough talent from one position for me to write a whole article, but this was a no-brainer. From high-rising recruits to out-of-state gems, here are seven Quarterbacks who impressed me yesterday!
QB | Preston Otter Preston Otter 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 MI | Nouvel Catholic Central | Hudl
A few weeks ago, when we updated the 2024 Rankings, a decision was made to rank Preston Otter Preston Otter 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 MI HIGH as the #4 Quarterback in the class. I’ve seen footage of Preston at camp after camp slinging it, and his film is awesome, yet he was still one of the only ranked QBs I haven’t seen yet… Until yesterday.
In an absolutely unreal QB group, Preston was the best. I don’t think it’s up for debate; some of Preston’s throws wowed everyone at the camp. Most of Preston’s throws were right on the money, even in tight coverage. A few throws in particular earned extremely positive reactions from both GV’s OC/QB Coach Matt Vitzthum and All-GLIAC QB Cade Peterson. Preston went above and beyond with extremely impressive fundamentals, accuracy, and timing. He was being coached up on a few minor things here and there (slightly-off placement, millisecond off timing, etc). In other words, the things he needed coaching on were the minor details, not anything foundational to playing QB. Needless to say, I remain a huge believer in Preston Otter Preston Otter 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 MI , and I’d bet anything he’ll be offered by GV sometime this summer.
QB | Tyler Bush | Michigan City (IN) | Hudl
Tyler was a great surprise at this showcase as an out-of-state prospect. He wasn’t one of the main guys I came to see (I didn’t know who he was before yesterday), but Tyler made throw after throw, earned the attention of coaches, and was hard to ignore. His drops were clean, he got the ball out as quickly as he could, and the vast majority of his throws were on the money. Overall a super solid performance by a guy who probably wasn’t on anyone’s radar before attending the showcase. I know he’s caught the attention of a few college coaches now.
QB | Jaeden Meeks Jaeden Meeks 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Benton Harbor | 2024 MI | Benton Harbor | Hudl
Jaeden was another huge standout that wasn’t even on my radar heading in. As the camp went on, Jaeden made some throws that turned more and more heads. In fact, I was approached by two college coaches asking me if I had any information on Meeks. Unfortunately, it was my first time seeing him in action! He’s a 6’3″ QB with a quick throwing motion, and the ball absolutely rockets out of his hands. I wasn’t able to see him too much, but I am highly considering attending his 7on7 tomorrow.
QB | Alek Wickstrom Alek Wickstrom 5'11" | 155 lbs | QB West Catholic | 2024 State MI | West Catholic | Hudl
I’ve teetered back and forth on Wickstrom overall. I know he’s a super hard off-season worker, and he truly wants to be great at what he does. Sometimes this offseason, I come away from a camp thinking he did alright, but nothing that really stood out. Yesterday, Wickstrom stood out to me. Plainly, I saw a lot more confidence in his throws. He was letting it loose with good accuracy and looked improved from other performances I’ve seen of him. He wasn’t perfect, but I’m confident Alek has improved. I’m extremely excited to see him play for West Catholic this fall!
QB | Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI | Airport | Hudl
This analysis has been a LONG time coming, as I first discovered Cooper in December of 2021. Yesterday was my first time seeing Cooper perform in person, and he performed exactly how I expected him to. First off, Cooper is an absolute unit of a human being. He’s 6’3″ 220 without much body fat, so you know he’s very fit and durable. In terms of his game, I saw few errors in his footwork, and his accuracy was mostly good. There were a few throws that were just slightly off, but all had great power behind them. In fact, I did hear a Division 3 coach say they “really like” Cooper. Plus, I think said school would be a phenomenal fit for Cooper. So, if he keeps up the camp work, there’s a high likelihood he will earn some offers here soon.
QB | Isaac Kelsey | Traverse City West | Hudl
Isaac is a guy that I saw quite a few reps of, but I still need to see more of him. I have a few “great throw” markers in my notes, and oftentimes when I looked over at a nicely thrown ball, it was Isaac who threw it. Solid player who 100% caught my eye, and I’ll be looking into him more soon!
QB | Kohen Mckenzie | Bishop Luers (IN) | Hudl
Kohen is in the same boat as Isaac. I saw a few flashes from him, and I remember him taking coaching well and directly applying it to his next rep. He’s unfortunately outside of my Michigan borders, though I’m confident he’ll have a great Senior season!
