Though it was a senior heavy roster last year, the team will look to some new underclassmen to step it up in 2023. After finishing 12-2 last season, look for Mountain Lakes to make a push for the same success and potentially a state title this fall.
Cosmo Fusco Cosmo Fusco 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Mountain Lakes | 2024 NJ is one of those great defensive linemen that can completely change the momentum of a game. He is a a bigger lineman than his competition and uses that size to his full advantage. He will bull rush offensive linemen and terrorize QBs and runners in the backfield. He also has some surprisingly quick feet, able to maneuver around blockers and chase down the carrier. Already receiving offers from Yale and Penn this spring, more offers will be on the way for Cosmo soon.

Trey Schneider Trey Schneider 6’0″ | 275 lbs | DL Mountain Lakes | 2025 State NJ is a player that has gained a lot of recognition from the college recruiters already. With multiple visits under his belt, Trey is sure to follow through with an extremely productive junior campaign. Trey is a guy that is going to be tough to block for years to come. He is going to disrupt any scheme the offensive coordinator has come up with. With strong hands and quickness off the ball, Trey is ready to become know nationwide.

Marco Dzamba Marco Dzamba 6’1″ | 190 lbs | DL Mountain Lakes | 2024 NJ is a player that is going to continue to shine on both sides of the ball. Lining up at tight end and receiver for his offense, he was able to bring in 406 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns out of a Wing T dominant offense. While lining up out wide, he really is built like a tight end, however, he is a lot faster than you would expect. You’ll see him run a quick hitch , turn upfield, and outrun the entire defense.
On defense, Marco was an absolute terror. Bringing in 80 tackles, 12 TFL, and 3 FF, he lined up all over the field and continued to make an impact regardless of where he was. A hard hitter that doesn’t let the runner get by very often, I see him flourishing as an OLB or edge rusher this season.
Giacomo Bevacqua
Giacomo Bevacqua
Giacomo Bevacqua is an unsung hero up in northern New Jersey. Playing inside linebacker for a dominant defensive unit, this is a player with great size and explosiveness. He has a fast burst when he’s blitzing, driving his foot into the ground and taking off as soon as the ball is snapped. When he gets there, he’s sure to wrap up the QB or ball carrier with flawless form tackles. In pass coverage, he’s able to drop back and get a feel for players entering his territory. He really is fast enough to play the safety position in the future if he so chooses, or if colleges start recruiting for that position.

Jordan Hernando Jordan Hernando 5’6″ | 165 lbs | RB Mountain Lakes | 2024 NJ didn’t get a ton of carries last year at the running back position, but when he did he made every carry count. Lined up predominately in the backfield, Jordan is a player that I see has a lot of upside heading into his senior year. He’s one of the smaller backs on the team but is extremely agile and goes through the hole with a burst of energy. There isn’t a ton of film available yet to break down, but from what we did see, Jordan could be set up to become one of the lead ball carriers for Mountain Lakes in 2023.
