The rising rotated in on offense during Saturday’s Kingstree 7-on-7 mini-tournament, catching passes out of the slot and showing off more than enough athletic ability to help the defending SCISA Class 2A state champs go after another title.
First-year coach Tyler Boyd said after the event (in which the Stallions lost in the semis after finishing third out of four teams in pool play) said Bennett (pictured) was stuck behind several more experienced players during his freshman season.
However, reps aren’t going to be lost on him this fall.
Bennett moves extremely well without the ball, something the Williamsburg Academy offense has been based upon. Boyd, last year’s offensive coordinator, isn’t gong to mess with a good thing. That means continuing to run everything through quarterback Conrad Balder and tailbacks Camden Moore Camden Moore 5'5" | 160 lbs | RB Williamsburg Academy | 2024 State SC and Teague Ward Teague Ward 5'11" | 220 lbs | LB Williamsburg Academy | 2024 State SC .
Still, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Bennett is another good thing.
THIS AND THAT
Bryson Epps DB, Kingstree – While 2026 corner Tyleek Dukes Tyleek Dukes 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Kingstree | 2026 State SC has already garnered plenty of attention in his short time in a Blazers’ uniform, Epps has a similar chance to produce over the course of the next three season. Epps is excellent at tracking the ball out of the air and changes directions on a dime.
Teague Ward Teague Ward 5'11" | 220 lbs | LB Williamsburg Academy | 2024 State SC LB/RB, Williamsburg Academy – Still hampered some from a broken leg suffered during track season, Ward only played defense on Saturday. He said he’s still being cautious with cutting. However, both he and the staff said they believed the two-way threat will be back to his old ways well in advance of the season opener in August.
Tyler Mungin Tyler Mungin 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Cross | 2024 State SC QB, Cross – With a new favorite target in play – and with everyone expecting him to go to that target over and over – Mungin stayed true to the game plan and spread the ball around quite well Saturday. He does a good job of night staring down his receivers and tipping off defensive backs.
Preston Fuller WR, Cross – The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder took advantage of some of the focus being off him. More importantly, he caught the ball in traffic on multiple occasions, including on an impressive two-play stretch in which he caught a ball between three defenders with plenty of contact just shy of the goal line. On the next play, Mungin hit him for the score, again, across the middle.
Micah Balder WR, Williamsburg Academy – The next Balder brother to come through the ranks spent a good chunk of Saturday cutting through defenses and giving his elder sibling an open target. He worked the sidelines on multiple occasions and even caught a deep ball or two. Balder, like Bennett, is going to have to maximize his spots when it comes to touches this fall. But the Stallions’ more-the-merrier approach isn’t a bad strategy.
