Florida High School 7v7 – Day 1
In this article:
THE VILLAGES – It has become a must for high school football teams throughout Florida.
A 7-on-7 tournament and line camp that brings an end to the busy month of June.
Programs throughout central and north Florida know that a well-run and first-class event awaits them when they travel to the Villages Polo Club for The Florida High School 7v7 Association two-way showcase of some elite teams and prospects.
On Friday, several teams made their way to compete and put their name on the map as the tournament was streamed and promoted with recruiting services and talent evaluators on hand to bring these programs into the spotlight.
They came from Florida's Panhandle, Palm Beach County, southwest Florida and many areas to jump into the spotlight.
With each team playing five games during the two sessions that was held on the first day, it set the tempo for Saturday, where the field will narrow, and a champion will be crowned.
Last year, Sanford Seminole won the 7-on-7 event – while Jacksonville Terry Parker captured the BattleLines line competition.
The first day saw 46 programs compete and set the tempo for Saturday.
Among the teams finishing 5-0 were Lake City Columbia, Ocala Vanguard, Winter Park Lake Howell, Tampa Plant (Black Team) and Tampa Plant (Gold Team).
Other programs who made an impact included Apopka Wekiva, St. Augustine, Palmetto, The Villages, Tampa Alonso, Orlando Bishop Moore and Gainesville Eastside were all 4-1. Wesley Chapel Wiregrass Ranch was 3-1.
Winter Garden West Orange led a group of schools that were 3-2. Naples Barron Collier, Tallahassee FSU High, St. Petersburg Northeast, Ocala Trinity Catholic, Ocala Forest, Eustis, Tarpon Springs East Lake and Longwood Lyman also ended the first day at 3-2.
The event also brought out Plant City Durant, Tampa Sickles, Winter Springs, Gainesville Oak Hall, Ocala West Port, Estero, Tampa Cambridge Christian, Fleming Island, Wildwood and Lutz Steinbrenner.
Celebration, Citra North Marion, Gulf Breeze , St. Cloud, Sebastian River, St. Augustine Tacoi Creek, Riverview Blue and Black, Lehigh Acres East Lee, Palatka, Tavares, Bradenton Christian and Palm Beach Christian also competed.
“This was truly a great day out here,” said organizer Will Dettor. “Everything went very well and sets the table for a great Saturday. We expect another tremendous day of football – especially with the addition of our BattleLines competition.”
