But we’d be naive to think we’ve evaluated everyone or didn’t miss a few along the way.
PRZ South Carolina is constantly looking at as many of the 10,000 prep football players in the SCHSL and SCISA ranks as possible. Now, the Community Film Room is back.
In each edition, we’ll break down five (currently) unranked players from across the state to let you see what we’re seeing. The series will lead right into the the start of the 2023 football season and – not long after – our next rankings update.
In Episode 31, we’re taking a good look at a three-way player at a Class 5A program, a massive offensive lineman from the Upstate and three defensive standouts who can wreck the line of scrimmage in a hurry.
Evan Daniels Evan Daniels 5'10" | 150 lbs | ATH Goose Creek | 2024 State SC ATH, Goose Creek
Daniels was able dip his toes in the water during his junior season in all three phases of the game. He caught 17 passes for 173 yards and five touchdowns. He also played corner and returned kicks. This year, Daniels is gonna be in the deep end from start to finish. With a verified 4.6 40 time (Palmetto Combine Series) and a 32-inch vertical, he makes every bit of his 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame count. He’s a dynamic route runner, especially from the slot, and he’s going to be a dangerous counter to fellow Goose Creek receiver Davion Malloy Davion Malloy 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Goose Creek | 2024 State SC this fall.
Stephen O’Dell OL, Broome
At a legitimate 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds, O’Dell is getting some looks from a lot of people who absolutely love his size. What we have focused on is how he moves while carrying all of it. Broome moved its big right tackle off his starting spot more than some schools release their quarterbacks. O’Dell’s film shows a big man who has no issue working all the way to the sideline on screens or continuing to push downfield after the play has taken shape. Over the next few months, O’Dell is going to really start to shine.
Kito Douglas Kito Douglas 6'1" | 230 lbs | DL Wilson | 2024 State SC DL, Wilson
Douglas (pictured) reminded everyone of what he’s capable of during the one-on-one sessions of the Palmetto Combine Series back in April. During those sessions, the 6-foot-1, 230-pounder lit up some pretty darn good offensive tackles with a quick first step and more than enough strength to handle bigger players. It was reminiscent of what he did during his junior season, when in seven regular-season games he put up 20.5 total tackles, five tackles for loss and a pair of fumble recoveries.
Jaevion Harris Jaevion Harris 6'1" | 265 lbs | DL Abbeville | 2024 State SC DL, Abbeville
Normally, we include the full-season highlight reels for players in the Community Film Room. But we’ve got a pretty good exception to the rule with Harris. With apologies to any flashbacks for Oceanside Collegiate, Harris’ performance in the Class 2A state title game was flat out dominant. He had six solo tackles, four more assisted stops, two sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. He did it all while moving from the nose guard position to the outside and back again. Take a look for yourself what the 6-foot, 285-pounder can do against top-end competition.
Andrew R Jackson Andrew R Jackson 6'2" | 230 lbs | ATH West Ashley | 2024 State SC LB/DL, West Ashley
Once thought of as a great project for free safety, Jackson has outgrown the position, literally. Now standing 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds (much bigger than even the NFL averages for the position), he’s quickly developed into a hard-hitting linebacker and edge rusher. As you can see on the film – despite his height and weight increases – he’s actually gotten faster. Jackson gets to where he needs to be in a hurry, backing up the 4.5 laser-timed 40 he ran back in April. Along with his 83-inch wing span, Jackson is getting into his groove at a good time, and his Army offer won’t be the only one soon.
