However, let’s be honest, it is still the skilled guys who throw, catch, and run the football who get the online headlines.
There was a good crop of skilled players from Kansas who worked out during the three-hour clinic. Here is a look at five Kansas athletes, all in the Class of 2024, who plied their skills at the Pitt State Camp in front of the Gorilla coaching staff.
Ryder Goodman, QB, 6’1”, 195, Riverton
One of the high schools I covered when working at the Pittsburg Morning Sun was Riverton High School. It brought back memories of seeing Goodman at the camp representing the Rams. He has an accurate arm and can throw the ball deep. He has good size for a quarterback and you can bet he has thought about playing as a Gorilla since he was a little kid.
Crew Myers Crew Myers 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Blue Valley West | 2024 State KS , WR, 6’0”, 170, Blue Valley West
Myers had a solid performance at the camp. He has nice hands and good speed. He lines up in the slot frequently for Blue Valley West and he is not afraid to run across or down the middle of the field. Myers is a solid route runner and I won’t be surprised when he lands himself in a college football program.
Brady VanDonge Brady VanDonge 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Basehor-Linwood | 2024 State KS , QB, 5’11”, 175, Basehor-Linwood
Another quarterback who shined during the workout was the Bobcats’ VanDonge. He seemed to thrive in the college setting and was not intimidated working out with other top-notch quarterbacks. He has a big arm and takes care of the football. VanDonge steps into his throws and can throw all the routes a college offensive coordinator would want from a quarterback.
Tyson Wallace, S, 6’0”, 180, Goddard
Wallace made the trip to Pittsburg from Goddard. He is a solid safety with good ball skills and the ability to finish tackles. He made 65 total tackles during his junior season with the Lions. He is also a threat to the quarterback when put on a blitz.
Grady Noll Grady Noll 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Jefferson County North | 2024 State KS , ATH, 5’10”, 170, Jefferson County North
Noll is one of those wildcard prospects who can play multiple positions. He could get recruited as an athlete and then his college coach will figure out where to play him later. He can play quarterback, running back, and in the slot on offense. Defensively he could play linebacker or safety. He is a tough kid who is difficult to tackle and not afraid to stick his nose in to make a tackle.
