IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 2023 high school football season is just a short summer away. It will be here before we know it.
You can read about the quarterbacks HERE, and now we’ll take a look at seven standout runnings backs in each class. Here’s 3A:
Brevin Doll Brevin Doll 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB ADM | 2024 State IA , ’24, ADM – A University of Iowa verbal commitment, Doll (6-0, 185) rolled up 1,475 yards (8.2 YPC) and 27 touchdowns as a junior in ’22. He also caught 33 passes for 640 yards and six scores. You can see quickly into his junior highlights that Doll offers game-changing speed. He’s especially dangerous out of the wildcat formation. He possesses a rare burst that leaves defenders grasping at air.
Lance Coon, ’24, Humboldt – At 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, Coon runs over, around and by people when watching his junior highlights. He does a nice job using his off arm to shed would-be tacklers, adding a layer to his elusiveness. He breaks through arm tackles and gets to another gear in the open field. He rushed for 1,566 yards (7.2 YPC) and 21 touchdowns as a junior in ’22.
Brennan Hayes Brennan Hayes 6'0" | 170 lbs | RB Creston | 2024 IA , ’24, Creston – Hayes (6-0, 180) ran for 1,338 yards (7.3 YPC) and 11 touchdowns last fall as a junior. He also caught eight passes for 89 yards and a pair of scores. His junior highlights reveal a running back that hits the hole hard and keeps churning. He’s effective running it up the gut or getting the toss pitch for a sprint to the outside. He breaks tackles and turns on the jets in the open field.
Cason Stevenson Cason Stevenson 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Nevada | 2024 State IA , ’24, Nevada – The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Stevenson is coming off of a junior season that saw him rush for 1,144 yards and nine touchdowns. His ’22 highlights feature a quick decision-maker who runs hard through the hole. When you add those traits with his good vision and impressive speed, you get a productive back.
Carson Bruns, ’24, Benton – Bruns (5-11, 175) shows a a lot of power during his junior highlights. He regularly breaks tackles and fights for extra yards. He cuts well and offers pretty good speed when underway. He rushed for 1,067 yards and 17 touchdowns last fall. He also posted 31 solo tackles with 3.0 of them being for a loss.
Brett White Brett White 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Solon | 2024 State IA , ’24, Solon – Also a standout on the baseball diamond, White (6-0, 210) is heading to Baylor for that sport after graduation. If he weren’t doing that, he could play football in college. I like White as a linebacker but he’s also very dangerous running the ball. He rushed for 922 yards (8.3 YPC) and 12 touchdowns in ’22. He produced 15.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks on defense.
Isaiah Favors Isaiah Favors 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA , ’24, Bishop Heelan – Favors (6-0, 190) could end up on either side of the ball at the next level. He’s certainly skilled at running with the football. His junior offensive highlights feature a guy who looks very fluid with an ability to get to top speed quickly. He also succeeds inside. He shows good instincts and does a nice job shedding blocks during his defensive highlights.
