2023 St. Charles County Players to Watch: Defensive Backs

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As we head into the middle of June, the 2023 high school football season is quickly approaching. With that in mind, it is time to start previewing what lies ahead in the upcoming season. While there is a lot of talent spread throughout the state of Missouri, an area that I believe gets overlooked at times from a football standpoint is St. Charles County. This area isn't in the headlines as much as schools in cities like St. Louis or Kansas City but there is still a ton of talent to be seen. With that being said, I have started a “St. Charles County Players to Watch” series. After covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. Miller finished this past season with 101 tackles and three interceptions. Byron lines up at safety and is very reliable in pass coverage. He does a great job of reading the quarterback and breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. When the ball is thrown in his direction, he has the ball skills to catch the interception at the highest point. He has also shown the ability to come downhill and provide support against the run. Miller has shown the ability to read the run and get to the ball quickly, and he is a very reliable tackler in the open field once he gets there. He had a solid junior year, finishing with 30 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. Ragan lines up on the outside at corner and is very impressive in zone coverage. He shows the ability to read route combinations effectively in order to put himself in a position to make a play. When the ball is thrown his way, he has shown the ability to break on the ball with perfect timing. Ragan is also reliable against the run, showing the willingness and ability to come downhill and make tackles in the open field. He is coming off a strong junior year in which he finished with 32 tackles and an interception. Sanchez thrives in zone coverage, showing the ability to read routes and break on the ball with perfect timing to break up the pass or come away with the interception. He is also very reliable when asked to provide support against the run. Sanchez does a great job of reading the run and coming downhill in a hurry. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he does a good job of running his feet through contact to secure the tackle. Robinson had an impressive sophomore season, finishing with 78 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Chaun is very reliable against the run, showing the ability to read the play and fill the running lane quickly to provide support. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Robinson does a great job of exploding through contact to secure the tackle in the open field. In pass coverage, he has shown the ability to guard receivers out of the slot and run with them in man coverage. He has also shown the ability to react with perfect timing when the ball is thrown in his direction to break up the pass. Cochrum is coming off a strong sophomore season in which he finished with 58 tackles, one fumble recovery, and an interception. He lines up at free safety and is very reliable in pass coverage. Cochrum does a great job of sitting in zone coverage and reading the quarterback. When the ball is thrown his way, he has shown the ability to break on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Jeremy is also reliable against the run, showing the ability to come downhill in a hurry and make tackles in the open field.
