This year over 200 players participated in the showcase at Harding High School in Charlotte, NC on a Thursday Night. Let’s take a look at the top Defensive Backs from the showcase.
AJ Graham – Mooresville – A 2025 prospect, AJ stands at 6’1 and 180 pounds, and can play either the corner or safety position in the defensive backfield. He has very good ball skills and can excel at going to get the ball at its highest point when playing deep zone coverage. After the HBCU Carolinas Showcase, AJ picked up an offer from Livingstone College.
Marley Samuel – Mooresville – Marley had an impressive day at the showcase, with several pass breakups and a couple of interceptions in 1 on 1’s. He showed very good speed in keeping up with receivers on a variety of routes, and excellent ball skills. He also has very good agility and explosiveness out of his breaks. Marley is a prospect in the 2024 class standing at 6’0 and 180 pounds.

– Ardrey Kell – This is one of the most high-character kids that I have ever covered. He is a leader and a great young man. At 5’10 and 175 pounds, he can really run and cover space at the safety position. He has good ball skills – he can also play some offense at WR or return kicks on special teams. He has some college interest currently and should continue to gain that throughout the camp season as a 2024 prospect.
Noah Collins – Chambers – At this showcase, Noah really showed his offseason improvements – namely in his 1 on 1 coverage versus wide receivers, and explosion coming out of breaks in agility drills. That is important as he projects as a slot corner on the next level. At 5’9 and 165 pounds, Noah is in the Class of 2025. I love how dedicated he is to his craft as well.

– Butler – Sammy was a very impressive cornerback here at the showcase. At 6’1 and 185 pounds, Sammy came into the showcase strangely with no offers, however now he has 3 offers to play on the next level from UNC Pembroke, Morgan State, and VMI respectively. He has good length with the size he possesses, can run with any receiver, and showed good ball skills. Sammy is a prospect in the 2024 class.
Keyshawn Jackson – Harding (MVP) – Keyshawn is a 2023 prospect who still should be garnering some interest from schools that have a late opening going into the fall. He has very good size and length at 6’3 and 180 pounds. He can cover a lot of space from the Free Safety spot and can be physical in run support, filling the alley well and tackling in space. He made several interceptions on the day and played with confidence and no hesitation.

– Crest – Camryn has impressed at showcases before, and this one was no exception for him. At 6’0 and 190 pounds, he excels in a safety/hybrid kind of role where he can support against the run on early downs, and then cover slot receivers/tight ends effectively in passing situations. I enjoyed seeing his overall speed, and very good footwork throughout the agility circuit portion of the showcase. Camryn is a prospect in the Class of 2024.
Botise Manuel – Mallard Creek – The first thing I like about Botise is that as a cornerback, he’s not afraid to get his hands on a wide receiver and be physical at the point of attack. He excels in locating the ball and making plays at the point when a receiver is going up for the catch. He shows good speed, and can excel in man coverage. Botise stands at 5’11 and 175 pounds and is a prospect in the Class of 2024.
