Continue ReadingTea Area has probably had one of the more impressive stories in South Dakota football. Starting off in 9-man years ago, to being a dominant 11A team, to being in the 11AA Championship back-to-back seasons. They have had a really good combination of speed and power every year, which always keeps them at the top of each class they have been in. The 2023 season should be no different They graduate a lot of talent, but will return a lot of talent as well. Take a look at the 2023 Tea Titans team below!
2024:
Keegan DeYoung Keegan DeYoung 5'10" | 190 lbs | ATH Tea Area | 2024 State SD (FB), Highlights
DeYoung showed his big play ability in his Junior Season. Even on simple zone plays he turned it into big yardage. Following his blocks after they developed and then explode through the big gap and gash the defense. He has great vision and awareness to find the open space in the open field and make a big play. Lastly his big difference making factor, is his grit, even on contact he still is able to grind out an extra 3-4 yards to finish the play.
Jessen Wiebenga Jessen Wiebenga 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Tea Area | 2024 State SD (LB), Highlights
Wiebenga is a good hybrid LB that you want to keep in the box. His athleticism makes him very versatile at LB depth or walked up on the Line of Scrimmage. Speed and lateral quickness make him a huge asset for the defense, always keeping good position when making tackles. Physicality plays big for him either making tackles or shedding blocks and then making tackles for loss. Lastly, he shows excellent awareness when making reads and flowing to the ballcarrier.
Carter Turek (OL), Highlights
I see a lot of muscle in Turek’s play in the trenches. A very explosive first step and maintaining a good pad level helps him win his positional battle every play. Winning a lot of battles with much bigger defenders with his muscle and his drive to finish through the play. I really like the way he down blocks and washes the defense out of his gap. Once he gets his defender on the ground, he does a great job keeping him out of the play.
Ethan Vis (DB), Highlights
Vis is a fundamentally sound Corner. If you are teaching a young DB, make him watch Vis’ tape, absolutely perfect fundamental pass coverage in my opinion. Always keeping himself in position to make plays on both the receiver and the football at all times. Starting with a good back pedal off the snap, and good awareness to flip his hips and run with his receiver. When the ball is in the air, he face guards the receiver perfectly to not draw flags.
Jonah Hunter Jonah Hunter DB Sioux Falls Christian | 2024 State SD (RB/LB), Highlights
Hunter shows the he is a good role player for his team. On kick-offs, he stays in his lane the whole way and breaks down to make tackles when the ballcarrier is near. I like the way he goes through blocks on kick-offs, rather than running around them. Once the ballcarrier gets within Hunter’s range, he does a great job breaking down, keeping the ball in front of him, wrapping up and making the tackle. He may fill in a LB position well. Reads keys, and fills with a purpose.
2025:
Riley Svanda Riley Svanda 6'0" | 165 lbs | RB Tea Area | 2025 State SD (RB), Highlights
Svanda can slide into many positions and be effective in them on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he has good vision and speed to find open field and attack it. Either at RB or WR, he can be a reliable playmaker in the air or on the ground. Also having good strength and balance to fight through tackles and extend plays farther. Defensively, his speed doubles over well to roam the defensive backfield and make play in the passing game.
Jacob Jongejeugd Jacob Jongejeugd 6'4" | 255 lbs | OL Tea Area | 2025 State SD (OL), Highlights
Jongejeugd plays the Tackle position on the O-Line extremely well. Having all the tools for a good lineman help him excel. Quick feet, good pad level, and great hand technique, he is very difficult to get around. I like his pass-blocking technique, being able to move around and keep good leverage to keep his defender in front of him. The run blocking is also fun to watch. A quick first step, good pad level and hand placement, he is burying the defender every play.
2026:
Brenner Konrad (QB), Highlights
I’ve written about Konrad once this off-season and I still like his tape. His athleticism make him a good dual-threat QB. In the offensive scheme, he can run the read option extremely well. When he keeps the ball, he can rip off big chunks of yardage with his speed and muscle. Throwing the ball, he has excellent arm strength and accuracy to hit some deep passes. Lastly, he shows a lot of poise going through reads, remains calm, and delivers a quick, accurate pass.
Kingston Nyberg (OL/DL), Highlights
I like Nyberg’s play on both sides of the ball. Offensively, in the run game he has excellent pad level and foot drive to take his defender down consistently. His awareness gets the defender out of the play, then he goes and finds another one. On pass plays, he has good footwork to keep himself in position to give his QB time to throw. Defensively, his low pad level and drive gets him in the backfield quickly and plugging run gaps while he’s at it.
Cody Peterson (OL/DL), Highlights
Peterson’s play on the perimeter of the offensive line. Taking a lot of pride in getting a good first step and getting in prime position to make the key block. Either opening the gap or sealing the edge, he was going to get his defender out of the play. I like how it didn’t matter if it was a run or pass play, he brought the battle to the defender and did not give up his leverage. Lastly, his hand placement played huge on down blocks and pass protection.
