Before we release the 2024 ranking update, I wanted to highlight a few 2025 prospects that are worth getting an early look at before the camp season fully kicks off.
These five prospects all have varying varsity experience but have flashed the physical tools to make a huge name for themselves as they continue their prep careers. Check out these under-the-radar incoming junior prospects…
Reiman Zebert Reiman Zebert 6'6" | 205 lbs | TE Platteview | 2025 State NE | TE | Platteview | 6’5″ 185 lbs
Reiman is a tight end prospect I’ll be watching closely this season. At 6’5” with super lengthy arms, the sophomore really popped out on tape. He has legit redzone threat ability with his natural size advantage but also with his top-tier leaping ability. Reiman can easily elevate over most defenders and win the 50/50 ball. What also stuck out about Reiman is his agility and change of direction for someone his size, showing signs of being able to create separation at the top of his route. He does a great job completing receptions with his hands with the awareness to secure the ball quickly when making tough catches in traffic. Zebert also showed the versatility to line up as an outside receiver. Reiman finished his sophomore season with 11 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown, but should be a bigger part of the offense in year 3.
Layne Boever Layne Boever 5'10" | 180 lbs | LB Bennington | 2025 State NE | LB | Bennington | 5’8″ 170 lbs
Layne was one of the many breakout 25s for the Badgers. Linebacker Layne Boever Layne Boever 5'10" | 180 lbs | LB Bennington | 2025 State NE was a key contributor to one of the stingiest defenses in the state. What stands out the most about Layne is his range and how he swarms to the ball on every play. He is very smart and does a great job trusting his instincts and coaching. He can do everything you can ask from a defender, from crashing downhill to disrupt the run game to dropping back into coverage. Boever’s ability to shed blocks and overall elusiveness at the LOS helps him defend the edge very well against the run. He’s not the biggest defender, but he sure hits like he is, also using great technique to secure the stop. As a lot of the Badgers defenders do, Layne showed a nose for the big play, whether it be a TFL, sack, PBU, or an INT; as a result, he ended his sophomore season with 71 tackles, two tackles for loss, an interceptions, two fumbles recovered, and a forced fumble. Expect Layne to continue stepping up as the Badgers set their sights on the difficult three-peat.
Elijah Malesa Elijah Malesa 6'1" | 290 lbs | DL Millard West | 2025 NE | DL | Millard West | 6’1″ 295 lbs
The Wildcat’s Elijah Malesa Elijah Malesa 6'1" | 290 lbs | DL Millard West | 2025 NE is a player we could be talking about as one of the top interior defenders by the time the season is over. Malesa is an up-and-coming defender that served as a run-stuffing defensive tackle for Millard West. Elijah does a great job gaining great hand placement while using his pure strength to drive blockers back, even showing that he can do so while maintaining an open arm. His quick get-off and explosive initial jab were also very impressive to watch on tape, moving very well for a bigger guy. He’s not just a run-stuffing defender, showing he can also apply pressure as an interior pass rusher. Elijah displayed a relentless motor and great pursuit of the ball, with the lateral quickness to keep after scrambling QBs and RBs in the backfield. I only had a small sample size to go off of for tape, but seeing that he is training with Coach Goolsby and doing additional work is a great sign that Elijah will come back even scarier next season.
Dylan Van Dyke Dylan Van Dyke 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Skutt Catholic | 2025 State NE | QB | Skutt Catholic | 6’1″ 185 lbs
Dylan is one of the exciting young QBs in the 2025 class that are just waiting on their moment. Dylan has been a consistent attendee at our prospect showcases and always performs at a high level. You see more of that when you turn on his tape and see a poised QB with a live arm. Some of the most impressive plays in his film are his deep bombs to his receivers, showcasing his deep ball potential. He also throws the fade very well. Dylan also displays solid mobility while rolling out and throwing on the run. He does a great job keeping his eyes downfield, always analyzing the field and looking for the best receiving option while avoiding turnovers. Dylan is definitely a QB to keep an eye on this camp season.
TJ Whaley TJ Whaley 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Bellevue West | 2025 State NE | TE | Bellevue West | 6’3″ 205 lbs
Bellevue West has somewhat of a secret weapon waiting at tight end with incoming junior TJ Whaley TJ Whaley 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Bellevue West | 2025 State NE . I got my first look at TJ during a NELITE practice in the winter, and he stood out immediately. He still looked raw in a few aspects, but his catching and route running really stuck out. TJ has a tall, lengthy frame with a huge catch radius and knows how to maximize it very well. He has strong hands at the point of the catch and even displayed some twitch afterward to tack on some extra yardage. I noticed that TJ has gone up to 205 pounds from the 180-190ish range he was at when I saw him back in December- this will be huge for him as a blocker. The Thunderbirds have a ton of weapons, so we may not see a ton of Whaley but expect to be pleasantly surprised when you do.
