Madison Prep Chargers | Spring 3-2-1 Spotlight

Madison Prep will look to a slew of new faces to grow up quickly in 2023 and a core group of returners to fill the big leadership shoes of their graduated now-former teammates.   But the Chargers' program has developed to a point of high expectations year in and year out, and the team showed promising flashes this spring.   Coach Landry Williams, the staff and the rising senior group will spend the summer ironing out the kinks and working toward consistency and high potential.   Madison Prep was among the first stops of Prep Redzone Louisiana's spring practice tours and a series of "Spring 3-2-1" spotlights looking at three key returning standouts, two notable breakout candidates and one underclassman to know sooner than later.     3 WELL-KNOWN RETURNERS   [player_tooltip player_id='144876' first='Hezekiah' last='Dantzler'] — 5-11, 160 WR/DB/ATH — Madison Prep (2024)   Dantzler, also a member of the school's perennial powerhouse basketball program, has developed behind a slew of talented Chargers predecessors in multiple sports, earned increased roles for both teams this year and is one of the clear leaders heading into his final football season. Lewis is a tough, physical runner at his size with the shiftiness to consistently make the first defender miss and the speed to already have a track record of breaking big scoring plays on offense and in the return game, but said continuing to improve his top gear is a priority this offseason.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/embed/-5n1DmtTn7E </div></figure>     2 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES   Henri' Bell — 6-4, 315 OL — Madison Prep (2024)   The big lineman earned all-district recognition this fall as the team's left tackle and figures to be among the team's leaders in the trenches this fall — along with classmates [player_tooltip player_id='677957' first='Reggie' last='Porter'] (6-2, 250) and Bruce Morris (6-3, 260) — and a potential college prospect with his 3.5 GPA and versatility to play inside or out. Grambling State and Southeastern Louisiana have been among programs to show interest thus far.   Jonathan Profit — 6-1, 235 LB — Madison Prep (2024)   One of the Chargers' defensive leaders, Profit is moving from nose guard to linebacker this season to enable him to cover more ground and showcase his potential at his more likely college position. With experience as an outside linebacker earlier in his career and a knack for being a quick study, the potential Ivy League prospect said he is already feeling comfortable playing more in space and confident understanding his keys. Profit should be a key player in the front seven along with fellow rising seniors such as defensive tackle Jonathan Augillard (6-0, 260), edge rusher Taron Cage (6-2, 210) and big two-way athlete Le'Davies Spears (6-3, 230) with Dantzler, [player_tooltip player_id='285658' first='Keilan' last='Sherman'] (5-11, 190) and Calvin Spears (6-3, 200) among those in the secondary.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/embed/2PZMU_j-XcA </div></figure>     1 UNDERCLASSMAN TO KNOW   [player_tooltip player_id='739753' first='Landon' last='Johnson'] — 6-0, 165 ATH — Madison Prep (2027)   The potential and buzz are both already strong for [player_tooltip player_id='291086' first='Tylan' last='Johnson']'s younger brother, incoming freshman athlete [player_tooltip player_id='739753' first='Landon' last='Johnson'], who earned a Grambling State offer last summer to kickoff his college recruitment months before beginning eighth grade. Johnson has been a promising young quarterback in middle school, but — particularly overlapping for two seasons with his older brother — also has the talent to get on the field earlier as a long, athletic pass-catcher and defensive back who plays the ball well in the air. The future remains bright on Madison Avenue between Johnson and the 2027 class and a 2026 group that already includes the aforementioned Ingram, edge rusher [player_tooltip player_id='710982' first='Ryan' last='Variste'], quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1603222' first='Javen' last='Holmes'] and a wide receiver group that already has [player_tooltip player_id='710974' first='Jarvis' last='Washington'] pushing 6-5 and [player_tooltip player_id='401973' first='Keyon' last='Robinson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='401733' first='Amaren' last='Sanders'] pushing 6-0.
