Continue ReadingSummer break is rapidly approaching for many school districts. However, that does not mean that recruiting is slowing down. We have plenty of recruiting news making headlines across Texas this week. It is time to get caught up on all the recruiting news making headlines and shine a spotlight on some prospects placing commitments or receiving scholarship offers.
Ali Scott-Athlete-LBJ Austin-6’0” 180-Pounds-2025
Ali Scott is a prospect that has the potential to play anywhere on the field at the next level. He has impressive speed and can use that on either the offensive or defensive sides of the ball. However, for the purpose of this article we are going to look at his ability as a quarterback. Smith has a strong arm, and he can use it to throw his wide receivers open. He has the ability to escape the pocket and throw on the run. Last week, the talented signal caller earned a scholarship offer from UNLV. I expect a strong 2023 season from Scott, and he will be a player to watch this season.
Reign Broadway Reign Broadway 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2024 State TX -Wide Receiver-Lake Ridge-6’1” 190-Pounds-2024
The Lake Ridge wide receiver is a smooth route runner that can create separation with his route ability. Broadway uses his route running to go along with his speed to get away from opposing defensive backs. Broadway has a knack for getting open for his quarterback and making a play on the ball. He is receiving interest from Sam Houston State, Navy, Tulsa, and Louisiana-Monroe. Meanwhile, Broadway has already earned scholarship offers from Missouri State and Air Force. Keep an eye on Broadway this season, he has the potential for a strong 2023 season.
Maddux Reid Maddux Reid 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Parish Episcopal | 2024 State TX -Running Back-Parish Episcopal-5’10” 195-Pounds-2024
Maddux Reid Maddux Reid 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Parish Episcopal | 2024 State TX is a running back that does an excellent job of allowing a rushing lane to develop. He displays impressive patience and allows his teammates to form a lane before exploding through the hole. Reid works well as a receiver coming out of the backfield and has the separation to create separation from opposing defensive backs. The speed and athleticism that Reid has makes it difficult to bring him down. Reid earned a scholarship offer earlier in the week from Colgate. I expect a strong 2023 campaign from Reid this season.
Samuel James Samuel James 6'1" | 230 lbs | LB Legacy Houston | 2025 State TX -Linebacker-Legacy Academy-6’0” 230-Pounds-2024
Samuel James Samuel James 6'1" | 230 lbs | LB Legacy Houston | 2025 State TX is the type of linebacker that rarely needs to come off of the field. He has tremendous athleticism and uses his speed well to get to and haul down the ball carrier. The Legacy Academy linebacker can cause plenty of havoc in the opposing offensive backfield when unaccounted for. However, James does not appear to have a problem defeating blocks. Earlier this week, the talented linebacker earned a scholarship offer from the TCU Horned Frogs. I expect a big senior season from James this upcoming season.
Emmanuel Choice-Wide Receiver-Lancaster-6’4” 185-Pounds-2025
At 6’4” and 185-pounds, Emmanuel Choice is a matchup nightmare for most opposing defensive backs. Choice has the size, but he also has tremendous athleticism and goes up and high points the football well. He uses his speed and size well to create separation from opposing defensive backs. Earlier in the week, both Arkansas State and Memphis each extended scholarship offers his way. He has the potential to do big things on Saturdays in the future.
Jalen Cooper Jalen Cooper 6'2" | 165 lbs | WR Cibolo Steele | 2025 State TX -Wide Receiver-Steele-6’2” 163-Pounds-2025
Jalen Cooper Jalen Cooper 6'2" | 165 lbs | WR Cibolo Steele | 2025 State TX has terrific speed at the wide receiver position for Steele High School. Cooper uses his speed well to distance himself from opposing defensive backs. He is a difficult player to bring down in the open field and has no problems shaking off opposing tacklers. Cooper earned a scholarship offer from the Texas Tech Red Raiders last week. Cooper is a prospect that has a high ceiling and folks should be on the lookout for a strong 2023 football season from the talented wide receiver.
