The Topeka Area Football Coaches Association in correlation with Rebound Sports Performance sponsored a Junior Day Combine at Shawnee Heights High School on May 1.
More than 60 athletes showed off their skills in front of 20-plus college coaches and scouts including this Prep Redzone scout.
Players were measured and timed in the 40-yard dash, “L” drill, Pro Agility drill, broad jump, vertical jump, and number of bench press reps at 185 lbs.
Here is a scouting report on six offensive and defensive linemen in the class of 2024 that stood out during the event. This is the first of multiple reports that will be posted on this combine.
Please feel free to reach out via email deckscoutks@gmail.com or on Twitter @KSScoutDeck if you would like me or another Prep Redzone scout to know about an upcoming camp or combine.
Jamond Lane Jamond Lane 6'0" | 280 lbs | DL Washburn Rural | 2024 State KS , 6’0”, 275, Washburn Rural
Lane had the longest broad jump of any athlete at the event with a 10-foot 11-inch leap. The defensive tackle from Washburn Rural also completed an impressive 23 reps on the bench press test. Lane has a low center of gravity and great balance. He plays with high energy and would be a great interior lineman to build a defense around.
Kryece Robinson, 6’3”, 230, Topeka West
Robinson posted the second-highest number in the bench press test of all athletes with 25 reps of 18s lbs. The Charger prospect also ran a 5.25 forty. Robinson is a bull-rusher. He beats opposing linemen with his quick hands and strong first punch.
Aidan Miller, 5’11”, 210, Seaman
Miller was one of the quickest linemen at the combine. He was clocked at 5.01 in the forty and at an impressive 4.58 in the Pro Agility test. The Seaman prospect also put up 185 lbs in the bench press 15 times. Miller has all the tools to be a legit pulling guard at the college level. Although he could be moved to fullback or tackle depending on his growth in the game and a program’s needs.
Garrett Griffin, 5’9”, 270, Seaman
Griffin is strong posting a number of 23 reps on the bench press and is quick with a 5.57 Pro Agility time. Griffin is strong and playing on the offensive side of the ball seems to be his best bet at the next level. Like Miller, he can get out and lead block as a pulling guard. There were Powerlifting coaches in attendance at the combine and Griffin could take that route to college as well.
Logan Pasta Logan Pasta 6'1" | 180 lbs | LB Cair Paravel | 2024 State KS , 6’0”, 185, Cair Paravel
Pasta posted solid numbers with 5.23 forty and 15 reps of 185 lbs on the bench press. Watching Pasta’s season highlight video it is easy to quickly ascertain that he loved to stick opposing ball carriers. He projects as a stand-up defensive end or a linebacker at the next level.
Samuel Whitehair, 6’2”, 225, Abilene
Whitehair’s two most impressive numbers were a 5.33 forty and 4.71 in the Pro Agility. Whitehair’s quickness causes problems for opposing blockers. He is able to run down ball carriers and he completes tackles.
