Continue ReadingNew updated rankings for the class of 2025 shine brightly on Top Recruits in New England. In this report, I will review the 2022 season highlight film and give a short analysis of each of the newly Top ranked recruits we have identified as “Linebackers” and who are balling in Connecticut.
Ethan Long Ethan Long 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB Brunswick School | 2025 State New E He is ranked as the #1 class of 2025 “Defensive Back” in Connecticut and also the # 1 ranked “Defensive Back” in the New England. He attends The Brunswick School in Connecticut.
He is a physical defender. He reads and reacts to run or pass quickly. Has good field awareness and knows when to come up for run support needs while covering. “Long” displays an excellent burst to close. He will strike through the body with a very low pad level when tackling. He has very good reactionary quickness, production versus the pass, toughness (mental and physical), and field awareness. He appears to have length in his legs and arms.
He is a Div 1 recruit who has FBS/FCS offers along with a few power 5 schools including Boston College, University of Pittsburgh and Duke. He will surely see additional offers before fall 2023 season.
Jamal Davis Jr. Jamal Davis Jr. 6’0″ | 200 lbs | DB St. Thomas More | 2025 State New E He is ranked as the #2 class of 2025 “Defensive Back” in Connecticut and also the # 2 ranked “Defensive Back” in the New England. He attends St. Thomas Moore in Connecticut.
His season play helped catch the attention of in state Div 1 Uconn Football Coaches. He recently picked up his first Div 1 offer from Univ of Connecticut in January 2023. A solid defender with 4.5 speed who is just getting started, and has time for additional growth and development. He plays downhill fast, and also plays tough in run support. He has good balance, quick change of direction, and acceleration out of cuts. He has a short area of quickness seen in his skill set. Another projected Div 1 recruit.
“Davis Jr. will be an attractive recruit on the summer camp circuit who I expect to pick up additional offers before 2023 fall season.
Highlights
Tyrell Wright Jr. Tyrell Wright Jr. 5’8″ | DB St. Joseph | 2025 State New E He is ranked as the #3 class of 2025 “Defensive Back” in Connecticut and also the # 13 ranked “Defensive Back” in the New England. He attends The St. Joseph in Connecticut.
Wright Jr. is a athlete who at first glance appears undersized at playing DB. But his film displays his capability and how his athletic coordination can be effective dispict his size. He appears to have a very good vertical and uses it to high top the ball when its in the air. He has very good short area quickness and loose hips with a fluid motion when back pedaling and accelerating out of his breaks. His coverage skills are of higher caliber and he can run with anyone.
Wright will need to display his high level athletic potential to college coaches to overcome any height concerns coaches may have. He surely can play and it will just be a matter of time before we see what level takes interest in his skills.
Devonte Harriott Devonte Harriott 5’9″ | 140 lbs | DB Stratford | 2025 State New E He is ranked as the #4 class of 2025 “Defensive Back” in Connecticut and also the # 20 ranked “Defensive Back” in the New England. He attends Stratford High School in Connecticut.rn
The position of cornerback requires an elite/high level athlete. Someone that can not only run fast in a straight line, because that’s imperative, but also has fluidity in the hips and ankles to open up the hips, change direction, and re-accelerate instantly. “Harriott displays this in his skill set. He plays bigger than his actual height and can cover well. Has very good ball judgment. He can plant & drive inn fluid motion and quickly. Has very good catch-up speed. His burst to close pops on film along with his ability to play man to man effectively.
His athleticism alone should grab college coaches attention during 2023 summer college camp season.
Tanner Thomas Tanner Thomas 5’10” | 160 lbs | DB Glastonbury | 2025 State New E He is ranked as the #5 class of 2025 “Defensive Back” in Connecticut and also the # 21 ranked “Defensive Back” in the New England. He attends The Glastonbury High School in Connecticut.
The first thing that caught my eye on his film was his ability to flip his hips in either direction quickly when covering man to man. His field awareness is of higher caliber. He knows when to come of coverage and help in run support. He tackles with a low pad level and a wrap and roll technique. Reacts well in zone coverages.
His combine numbers/athletic data are going to be a major tool for college coaches when evaluating his ability to play at the next level.
