We will begin with the northern most county in West Virginia: Hancock County. Here are some prospects you need to keep an eye on for the defensive side of the ball in Hancock County for the 2023 season.
Wesley Molish
Wesley Molish
2025 Oak Glen High School Linebacker Wesley Molish will be one of the top linebackers in Hancock County for the 2023 season. The 6’2 210 pounder was unfortunately injured for most of his sophomore season in 2022 and is flying under the radar a bit but look for him to have a breakout season in 2023 after fully recovering. He looks to make an impact on offense as well as he will be in contention for the starting QB position among other spots if needed. He has impressive size and is well put together for only his second year in high school and has a good combination of size and athleticism.
We look for Molish to be one of Hancock County’s top class of 2025 athletes with still two more years of development to go.
Dominik Maple
Dominik Maple
Dominik Maple is another Hancock County 2025 athlete who was a starter on both sides of the ball in 2022 for his Weirton Madonna Blue Dons. Maple was a starter at OL and LB and we look for him to play on the defensive side of the ball in college depending on how he develops over the next two years. Listed at 6’1 and 230 pounds, Maple has good size for a rising junior and flashed some speed and athleticism to go with it in his sophomore highlight video. He could also end up with his hand in the dirt on the DL if he continues to grow physically.Hudl | Twitter
Alias Pugh Alias Pugh 6’2″ | 235 lbs | DL Weir | 2024 State WV of Weir High School flashed in his junior highlight reel showing a nice combo of speed and ability to rush the passer. Pugh started both ways for his Red Riders squad at OL and DE and was a very productive player. Listed at 6’3 205, he still has plenty of room to add to his long frame and get stronger. Pugh will be one of the top DL prospects in Hancock County for the 2024 class.Hudl | Twitter
Anthony Zorbini
Anthony Zorbini
Another 2024 DL prospect name to know from Weir High School is 6’1 250 pound Anthony Zorbini. Zorbini was also a two-way starter on the line of scrimmage for the Red Riders in 2022 and could play on either side in college. We see his ceiling being higher on the defensive side of the ball with his size and strength. He often overpowers opposing offensive linemen and causes havoc in the backfield and is hard to move off the ball. Zorbini is an intimidating presence in the interior of the defensive line and causes a lot of TFLs and zero yardage gains. He is also a standout thrower on his Track & Field team which also shows his physical strength.
Charles Prentice Jr.
Charles Prentice Jr.
The Hancock County linebacker crop will be loaded for the 2023 season and that continues with 2024 Weir High School LB Charles Prentice Jr. He is a well-put-together athlete at 6’1 and 200 pounds and showed he has the athleticism to pair with it. He has above-average speed from his middle linebacker spot and is a leader of the defense. Prentice Jr. flies around and is always around the ball on every play. You will notice quite a few clips in his junior highlight tape of punishing opposing offensive skill players with big hits as well. He certainly isn’t afraid to stick his nose in the A and B gaps and stonewall opposing players at the line of scrimmage and backfield either.
It will be exciting to see his senior campaign after another year in the weight room and off-season program.
Our defensive back name to know is a good one with 2024 corner Devan Colson Devan Colson 5’11” | 180 lbs | DB Weir | 2024 State WV of Weir High School. The first thing you need to know about Colson is speed, speed and more speed. Colson runs a low 11-second 100m dash and that speed translates to the football field. There weren’t many defensive highlights on his Hudl from his junior season but all you need to see is this 4 interception performance in one game during his sophomore year to show he can play defense. Colson could definitely play on the offensive side of the ball as well at WR but his highest ceiling might be at DB. Colson is also a threat in the return game every time he receives the kick.Hudl | Twitterrn
Kamar Bridges Kamar Bridges 5'9" | 165 lbs | LB Weir | 2024 State WV
Kamar Bridges Kamar Bridges 5'9" | 165 lbs | LB Weir | 2024 State WV
2024 LB Kamar Bridges Kamar Bridges 5’9″ | 165 lbs | LB Weir | 2024 State WV may be undersized according to most at the linebacker position but that doesn’t stop him from being a physical player. He’s 5’10 165 but a strong 5’10 165 and you can see that on tape right away. If you need any more proof that he’s a physical player turn on his offensive highlight video too where he plays some fullback and tight end for his Red Riders team. His speed and quickness also jumped out when watching his film which plays well at his OLB spot. Bridges can rush the passer and has the lateral quickness to cover in the flats and slot receivers too. Kamar Bridges Kamar Bridges 5’9″ | 165 lbs | LB Weir | 2024 State WV is just another example of you shouldn’t always disregard physical size and just turn on the film and see that he can play.
