As has been the case for quite some time now, the city of St. Louis is abundant in talent on the gridiron. With that in mind, I wanted to take a look at some of the top returning players in the city heading into the 2023 high school football season. With that being said, I will kick things off with the top quarterbacks to watch in St. Louis in 2023.
First up on this list is a quarterback that I’ve been high on for a while now. Antwon McKay Antwon McKay 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Cardinal Ritter | 2024 State MO is coming off an outstanding junior season in which he helped lead Cardinal Ritter to a Class 3 State Championship. McKay finished this past season completing 99/170 passes for 1,654 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. He has a cannon for an arm, showing the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. McKay also puts a nice amount of touch on his passes, putting the ball where only his intended receiver can catch it. Antwon has also shown the ability to make plays on the ground when needed, scoring two rushing touchdowns this past season. McKay currently holds one offer from Northern Iowa but I expect more to come his way going into his senior year as he has the talent to be a very successful quarterback at the next level.
Cardinal Ritter has a problem that most coaches would dream of having as they have two high-caliber quarterbacks in McKay and Carson Boyd Carson Boyd 5’11” | 185 lbs | QB Cardinal Ritter | 2025 State MO . Boyd also saw plenty of action last season, completing 79/104 passes for 1,510 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. Carson throws a very impressive deep ball, showing the arm strength to lead his receivers down the field and ball placement to put the ball where only his receiver can catch it. He is also very impressive under pressure, showing the ability to step up in the pocket and deliver strikes down the field, even while taking a hit from an opposing pass rusher. Boyd is also electric as a ball carrier, using his speed to break off a long run at any given moment. He finished his sophomore year with 32 carries for 562 yards and three touchdowns. Carter currently holds offers from UCF, Missouri State, UNLV, West Virginia, and Texas A&M, and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a true Power 5 caliber quarterback prospect.
Another quarterback that is coming off a very impressive season is Marco Sansone Marco Sansone 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB St. Louis University High | 2024 State MO . Sansone finished his junior year completing 145/287 passes for 2,245 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The main thing that stands out with Sansone is his arm strength. He puts this on display by stretching the field in the deep passing game and zipping the ball into tight windows in the short/intermediate passing game. Sansone also shows impressive accuracy, hitting his receiver right in the hands and placing the ball where only they can catch it. He also ran for one touchdown this past season. While Marco doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect that to change soon as he definitely has the talent to play quarterback somewhere at the next level.
Beau Dolan Beau Dolan 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Ladue | 2024 State MO is another incoming senior quarterback that deserves more attention. He had a strong junior season, completing 132/239 passes for 1,739 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The lefty quarterback throws an impressive deep ball, showing the ability to stretch the field and lead his receivers down the field away from opposing defensive backs. He also has a good feel for the pocket. Dolan is able to feel opposing pass rushers closing in on him and move around in the pocket to avoid pressure while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws. He also has shown the ability to make plays on the ground as needed, finishing with one rushing touchdown last season. Dolan doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should be on the radar of college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.

Next up on my list, I have another state championship winning quarterback. Cole McKey Cole McKey 5’10” | 180 lbs | QB CBC | 2024 State MO helped lead CBC to a Class 6 State Championship this past season, completing 127/195 passes for 1,914 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He is a good decision maker as a quarterback, doing a great job of going through his progressions not and not making a lot of risky throws. McKey also has shown good ball placement in his passes, putting them where only his intended receiver has a chance to catch it. He also has a respectable arm, showing the ability to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Cole holds one offer from Calumet College but I expect more to come his way going into his senior year as he has the talent to play at the next level.

Dillon Duff Dillon Duff 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB De Smet | 2025 State MO is a quarterback that started to make a name for himself last season while serving as a backup. He finished his sophomore season completing 24/49 passes for 318 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions. Duff has impressive accuracy, showing the ability to fit passes into tight windows and also has a very strong arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. He has also shown the ability to scramble outside the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Duff has also shown the ability to tuck the ball and pick up yards on the ground, running the ball 18 times for 108 yards and a touchdown this past season. Dillon doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect them to come soon as he has received college interest, will be moving into a full-time starting role, and has the potential to become a big time Division I quarterback prospect.

Another incoming junior quarterback that I have my eye on is Dakarri Hollis Dakarri Hollis 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Lutheran North | 2025 State MO from Lutheran North. Hollis had a strong sophomore season, completing 115/208 passes for 1,534 yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Dakarri has impressive pocket mobility, showing the ability to feel pressure coming and move around the pocket to avoid it while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws. He also has an impressive arm which he uses to stretch the field and hit receivers in stride in the deep passing game. Hollis is also very dangerous as a runner, using his speed and elusiveness to make big plays on the ground. He finished this past season with 49 carries for 261 yards and three touchdowns. Dakarri doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will be a player to watch over the next two seasons as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Highlights
Antonio Muyco Antonio Muyco 5’9″ | 175 lbs | QB Affton Highschool | 2025 State MO is another quarterback who stood out to me as a sophomore. He had a solid 2022 season, completing 70/160 passes for 1,221 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Muyco showed that he is a very good improviser when under pressure. He showed the ability to scramble around outside the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Muyco also has shown good ball placement, putting his passes where only his intended receiver can catch it. He also is a threat as a ball carrier, finishing this past season with eight rushing touchdowns. Antonio doesn’t hold any offers but will be a name to watch over the next two seasons.

David Leonard
David Leonard
David Leonard is a quarterback that is coming off a strong junior year. He helped lead St. Mary’s to their second straight Class 4 State Championship, completing 80/160 passes for 1,566 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. Leonard has a very impressive arm, showing the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. He also has impressive accuracy, putting the ball right where his receiver is going to be and in a spot where only they can catch it. Leonard has also shown the ability to make plays with his legs, using his speed to break off on long runs. He finished this past season with 60 carries for 421 yards and six touchdowns. While he doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect some to come his way soon as he’s had a strong off-season and has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
