The most recent rankings update for the Class of 2024 included north of 30 players from the Grand Strand/Pee Dee zone.

Many of them were names we've known for some time - such as recent South Carolina commitments [player_tooltip player_id='139295' first='Josiah' last='Thompson'] at Dillon and [player_tooltip player_id='208334' first='Kelvin' last='Hunter'] at West Florence. Conway quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='208332' first='Devin' last='Grainger'] and Wilson receiver [player_tooltip player_id='139297' first='Jyron' last='Waiters'] are no stranger to our list, either.

But who are we watching like hawks from this pocket of the state over the course of the next four months prior to the next update?

Here's where we're focusing our attention.

[player_tooltip player_id='208353' first='Quincy' last='Rhodes'] DB, South Florence (Currently: No. 67 overall/No. 7 DB)

Rhodes will enter his senior season with eight career interceptions, a figure that could have been even higher had he not been forced to take over the quarterback position for most of his sophomore season. Rhodes is playing along an all-state safety in [player_tooltip player_id='996915' first='Dirrick' last='Goodman'] and very well could be one himself.

[player_tooltip player_id='208344' first='Brady' last='Pickett'] OL, Myrtle Beach (Currently: No. 98/13)

The Myrtle Beach offense was a bit of an issue last year as the Seahawks were forced to shuffle through three different quarterbacks. But Pickett (pictured), who will move to left tackle, is one of the cornerstones for the reset. He's dropped a little weight this offseason and is looking as solid as he has since moving into the area two years ago.

[player_tooltip player_id='208342' first='McKendrie' last='Douglas'] QB, Hartsville (Currently: 121/14)

Back in December, Douglas threw a pass into a super tight window during the Joanne Langfitt Junior Showcase that had everyone who saw it gawking a bit. All he's done since then is get bigger. Douglas plays in a Wing T offense - not exactly pass heavy. But as coach Jeff Calabrese said, “He can spin it a little bit.”

[player_tooltip player_id='262434' first='Juels' last='Huntley'] ATH, Florence Christian (Currently: 125/11

Huntley has every opportunity to turn into one of the most efficient Swiss Army knives in the entire state. He plays all over the field on both sides of the ball and then backed it up with a respectable showing in the Palmetto Combine event earlier this month. If he goes off again like he did last fall, don't say we didn't warn you.

[player_tooltip player_id='589056' first='Miles' last='Robinson'] LB, Waccamaw (Currently: 173/31)

At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Robinson has the physical tools to stand out in a very physical region. However, we don't think it will take him that long to start really making his mark. Waccamaw is a budding riser, especially on defense, and Robinson only having to do his job will allow him to show off strengths besides just in the weight room.

[player_tooltip player_id='771237' first='Quadir' last='Scott'] ATH, Socastee (Currently: 177/18)

Scott wasn't higher up our rankings because he's essentially been a ping-pong ball between quarterback and receiver the last two seasons at two different schools. He's shifting back to receiver, and we believe we'll see much of the same flash he started with in 2022 prior to an injury-related switch to quarterback.

[player_tooltip player_id='771242' first='Brian' last='Brownlee'] LB, Trinity Collegiate (Currently: 194/33)

Brownlee is still a big of a project of sorts. But if you're going to learn on the fly, doing so with many of the pieces he has around him is a great place to start. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder will in many ways be a small part of a loaded defense. That doesn't mean he can't develop considerably in the next few months.
