We are starting to get to a busy part of the offseason where Junior day invites, spring game invites, unofficial visits, official visits, etc. really start to take off. In this “Recruitment Rundown” feature we will be focusing on how recruitment is going for 24 of the top 2024 wide receivers in the state. We will look at which players have been, where they plan to visit, other sports/7v7 happening, and other recruitment news. You’ll also see player analysis; however, the focus is on recruitment.
Dae’ Vonn Hall | Bellevue West | 6’2″ 175 lbs
Offers: Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Penn State, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Mizzou, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Iowa.
Rundown: Dae’vonn’s 2023 season further proved his status as one of the elite receivers in the country. He is an incredibly polished receiver that does everything extremely well. He has elite hands, runs great routes, can elevate and play above the rim, and has burst after the catch. Hall finished his junior year with 62 receptions for 974 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has been busy this offseason as one of the many weapons on Nebraska Elite 7v7, is among the top high jumpers and sprinters in the state, and has been on the move with several visits. Dae’vonn had recent visits to Power 5 programs in Penn State and Texas A&M, with more likely coming up.
Isaiah McMorris Isaiah McMorris 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Bellevue West | 2024 State NE | Bellevue West | 6’0″ 175 lbs
Offers: Tulane, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas, State, Iowa, Mizzou, Texas Tech, and Penn State.
Rundown: Isaiah has been riding a huge recruitment wave after having an all-time receiving season as a junior. Isaiah finished the 2022 season with 90 receptions (state record), 1,297 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns. He added an extra dimension to an already-loaded Thunderbird offense with his quick twitch and after-the-catch ability. McMorris and Hall could be the most talented WR duos in state history as they are both Power 5 players. McMorris has also been very busy this offseason, claiming his THIRD basketball state championship season with 29-0 Thunderbirds. He’s also been active with NELITE 7v7 and has been killing it in track. McMorris has had visits with Mizzou (his QB Daniel Kaelin Daniel Kaelin 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Bellevue West | 2024 State NE just committed here), Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Southern California, with plans to go to Kansas State, Penn State, and Minnesota. Definitely, a recruitment to keep an eye on as he could continue to soar this offseason.
Jackson Williams Jackson Williams 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millard West | 2024 State NE | Millard West | 6’0″ 170 lbs
Interested Schools: North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Wyoming
Rundown: One of the shiftiest players in this class! Jackson is a fun player to watch on tape because of how explosive he is and his ability to break open the big play. He finished his junior season with 28 receptions for 711 receiving yards, 657 return yards, 1,490 all-purpose yards, and 11 total touchdowns. Williams is a player that can be used in a variety of ways with outside-inside versatility, deep threat ability, short reception/YAC, and as a runner. Very dynamic player! Jackson has also been crushing it in baseball as a key member of the defending state champion Wildcats. Jackson is getting some looks from nearby FBS and FCS schools but has yet to receive his first offer. Big-time talent!
Zander Reuling Zander Reuling 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Kearney | 2024 State NE | Kearney | 5’10” 175 lbs
Interested Schools: Dakota Wesleyan, Chadron State, Briar Cliff, South Dakota Mines, Northern State, and Northwestern College.
Rundown: Zander enjoyed a very underrated breakout season in which he was a factor in all three phases of the game for the Bearcats. Reuling ended up with 37 receptions, 643 receiving yards, 942 all-purpose yards, and 10 total touchdowns. Zander is a monster in the slot and can find ways to create separation with ease. His speed makes him a threat to turn upfield and go off for a big gain. He has great vision and can make quick, smart cuts to find open lanes. Elusive with the ball in his hands. Has yet to receive his first offer, but a great offseason should change that for Zander.
Ben Goodwater Ben Goodwater 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Bellevue West | 2024 State NE | Bellevue West | 6’3″ 185 lbs
Offers: Minnesota State-Mankato
Rundown: Dae’Vonn and Isaiah will get the headlines, but Ben is not to be overlooked. He finished his junior year with 18 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns. Even with all the talent around him, Ben still does a great job maximizing his touches. He may not a super shifty guy, but he knows how to create separation and is automatic at the catch point. He can work all levels of the field. Ben picked up his first offer just yesterday from Minnesota State-Mankato and has received interest from schools like Augustana, Wayne State, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Southwest Minnesota State, South Dakota Mines, Western Illinois, Briar Cliff, and Morningside. He had a recent visit to Southwest Minnesota State.
Brant Benes Brant Benes 5'11" | 155 lbs | WR Boone Central | 2024 State NE | Boone Central | 5’11” 155 lbs
Interested Schools: Nebraska, Augustana, Kansas State, Wayne State, North Dakota State, Chadron State, Hastings College, Northern State, and Southwest Minnesota State.
Rundown: Very versatile player that could play WR or DB at the next level. I like his play at receiver where he has shown the ability to run great routes and has reliable hands. Benes finished his junior year with 21 receptions for 406 yards, 846 all-purpose yards, and 6 total touchdowns. He does a great job tracking the deep ball, with great speed and timing to get right under it. Brant is had a recent visit to Nebraska and South Dakota State. High ceiling player
Brady Brown Brady Brown 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Blair | 2024 State NE | Blair | 5’11” 185 lbs
Commitment: South Dakota State Baseball
Rundown: The Bears have a deep 2024 class, especially at the skills positions where they have athletes like Brady Brown Brady Brown 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Blair | 2024 State NE . Brady has been a stand out player since his sophomore season. He is a very fluid route runner that can beat man and exploit soft zones. Brown and the Bears are gearing up for what could be a huge season in 2023. Brady announced his commitment to play baseball for South Dakota State.
Dalton Amen Dalton Amen 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Malcolm | 2024 State NE | Malcolm | 5’11” 175 lbs
Rundown: One of the prospect I believe is severely overlooked. Dalton blew up last season with 23 receptions for 581 yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. The biggest takeaway from his game is his ability to hit the deep play, averaging over 25 yards per reception. He does a great job winning at the line with a great release and quick acceleration. Very smooth route runner with excellent hands. Check this guy out!
Thomas Meckna Thomas Meckna 6'3" | 180 lbs | ATH Elkhorn North | 2024 State NE | Elkhorn North | 6’3″ 180 lbs
Interested Schools: Augustana, South Dakota State, South Dakota, and Wayne State.
Rundown: The Wolves are a team to watch out for next year. They made huge strides last year and return a lot of talent. Their receiving unit features some lengthy playing including Thomas Meckna Thomas Meckna 6'3" | 180 lbs | ATH Elkhorn North | 2024 State NE . I like how Tommy can play physical with defensive backs and doesn’t mind playing through some handfighting. He can make catches outside his frame and could be a huge threat in the redzone with his ability to separate and elevate once the ball is in the air. Meckna hauled in 11 receptions for 201 yards and scored 4 touchdowns. Solid on defense as well, hauling in 3 picks and returned one for a TD. Several schools have expressed interest in Meckna from FCS schools to D2, definitely a prospect set to rise this offseason.
Westin Miller-Ayivi Westin Miller-Ayivi 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Gross Catholic | 2024 State NE | Gross Catholic | 5’8″ 160 lbs
Interested Schools: Minnesota State-Moorheaad, Northern Colorado, Hastings College, Briar Cliff, Winona State,
Rundown: Gross Catholic’s mean OL and bruising backs made the majority of the headlines, but receiver Westin Miller-Ayivi Westin Miller-Ayivi 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Gross Catholic | 2024 State NE proved to also be a very key player in their season. Westin finished the season with 26 receptions for 509 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. Westin is a big play threat who can use his top-end speed to threaten teams vertically. Westin also has the ability to take a quick dump-off in space and let his shifty feet and quick change of direction take over. Fluid player that can glide in his routes. Also a willing blocker. No offers so far for Westin, but has received a solid share of interest from schools.
Karter Lee Karter Lee 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Kearney | 2024 State NE | Kearney | 5’11” 170lbs
Interested Schools: Dakota Wesleyan, South Dakota Mines, Northern Colorado, Northern State, Hastings College,
Rundown: The Bearcats enter the 2022 season with one of the top WR duos in the state. Karter Lee Karter Lee 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Kearney | 2024 State NE had a solid breakout season with 30 receptions for 540 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. When you watch his tape, the thing that stands out to me is his ability to create opportunities on the field. Whether its Karter creating separation in his route or using his jets to break away after the catch, he can find ways to make plays. Understands concepts and how to exploit defenses with his routes. Tough through contact! Still waiting on his first offer, definitely a guy that can produce at the next level!
Andrew Brown Andrew Brown 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Omaha Central | 2024 State NE | Omaha Central | 6’0″ 160 lbs
Rundown: The Eagles get back their receiving yards leader from last season, Andrew Brown Andrew Brown 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Omaha Central | 2024 State NE . Andrew finished his junior campaign with 18 receptions for 386 yards and a touchdown, also adding 38 tackles and an interception on defense. Right off the bat, Andrew’s tape feature two plays where he breaks away from tackles and then cranks on the jets to break away for the long touchdown. Surprisingly tough to bring down on contact. He’s an aggressive route runner that can press a DB vertically before using his quick feet to make sharp turns and changes in direction. Great body control when going up for the ball. Brown also holds a state championship in the 300m hurdles, showing his great athleticism. Buy stock in Andrew ASAP!
Kevaughn Shannon | Omaha North | 5’7″ 145 lbs
Interested Schools:
Rundown: A somewhat overlooked playmaker among the deep talent at Omaha North. Kevaughn isn’t the biggest guy on the field but he is very twitchy and very tough. He finsihed the season with 28 receptions 298 and four receiving touchdowns. He has great footwork and is super shifty before and after the catch. Shannon is very good at getting open in short down situations and providing a great safety valve option. Kevaughn also has the speed to take the top off of a defense. Kevaughn has been hard at work with the Warren Academy 7v7 team. His recruitment is still relatively slow, but with how good of a job North does promoting their athletes, it shouldn’t be long before he picks up some interest.
Kooper Koehn Kooper Koehn 6'2" | 195 lbs | WR Gothenburg | 2024 State NE | Gothenburg | 6’2″ 195 lbs
Interested Schools: Doane, Dordt, Sioux Falls, Penn, Bates College, Dakota Wesleyan, Hastings College, Southwest Minnesota State, Morningside, North Dakota State, Carroll, Davidson College, Western Illinois, Saint Thomas, South Dakota Mines, Central Missouri, Middlebury, Lyon College, Rose Hulman, Pittsburgh State, and Macalester.
Rundown: Kooper is a player that has been making quite a bit of noise on the recruiting circuit, drawing interest from several schools. Koehn is an interesting prospect that projects as a receiver but depending on how his frame develops, could fit a more Flex TE position. He knows how to use his size well and elevate above his opponents to high point the ball. The Swede’s offense should be scary with Kooper and several great prospets at the skill positions. He finished the 2022 season with 20 receptions for 270 yards and a touchodwn. Koehn has stayed busy with visits to Dakota Wesleyan, Hastings College, and Southwest Minnesota State.
Drew Morrow Drew Morrow 6'3" | 150 lbs | WR O'Neill | 2024 State NE | O’Neill | 6’3″ 150 lbs
Rundown: Very impressive receiver who’s basketball background shines on the field. Drew can play above the rim and use his length/catch radius to it’s full extent. He understands spacing and route concepts very well, finding ways to get open even in tight coverage. Overall, Drew hauled in 26 receptions for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns. Great hands receiver that can hold on through contact. Drew definitely has the talent to play college football, but he could very well sign with a basketball program, well-rounded athlete!
Michael Scheef Michael Scheef 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Gretna | 2024 State NE | Gretna | 5’11” 175 lbs
Interested Schools: Sioux Falls, Briar Cliff, Wayne State, South Dakota Mines, North Dakota State, Winona State, Augustana, South Dakota State, Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State-Moorhead, and Hastings College.
Rundown: Michael Scheef Michael Scheef 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Gretna | 2024 State NE will be the returning receiving yards leader for the Dragons and will likely be the top target for whoever will be the new QB1. Scheef ended his junior year with 29 receptions for 342 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. He runs great routes and shows solid footwork, especially coming in and out of his breaks. Very purposeful with his movements. Also looked like a willing outside blocker. He’s received quite a bit of attention from FCS-D2 schools and will likely continue to grow his stock this season.
Reece Williams Reece Williams 6'2" | 155 lbs | WR Tekamah-Herman | 2024 State NE | Tekamah-Herman | 6’2″ 170 lbs
Rundown: I recently covered Reece in an article and am still very impressed with what I saw. Reece caught 14 receptions for 330 yards and touchdowns during his junior season. He has a solid straight-line burst with the ability to time the ball and win over top. Reece is a taller receiver and knows how to make catches outside of his frame. Great athlete still under the radar!
Ayden Zikmund Ayden Zikmund 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Central City | 2024 State NE | Central City | 6’3″ 170 lbs
Interested Schools: Concordia Basketball (Offered)
Rundown: Tall, vertical threat receiver that can stretch the field and win 50/50 balls with his length. He finished the season with 28 receptions for 341 yards and hauled in 3 touchdowns. The Bison love to throw the ball, so you can expect to see Ayden put up some big numbers next season. Ayden is also a standout basketball player, and it seems more likely that he will sign somewhere to play college hoops.
Ben Trede Ben Trede 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Bishop Neumann | 2024 State NE | Bishop Neuman | 6’2″ 190 lbs
Rundown: Ben is a player that we have as a wide receiver but could end up playing as a DB at the next level. There isn’t a ton of tape on Ben so far, but his two-way versatility, size, and athleticism are very intriguing. I’m expecting Ben to take on a bigger role after being part of a deep WR/DB group.
Dezmond Straatman Dezmond Straatman 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Platteview | 2024 State NE | Platteview | 5’10” 155 lbs
Rundown: Dezmond was a two-way standout for the Platteview Trojans. Straatman hauled in 34 receptions for 373 yards and six touchdowns and also added 68 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. Platteview had a somewhat overlooked receiver corp, with Dezmond emerging as the reliable, quick target receiver. He finds ways to get open in short to intermediate distances and can make defenses pay when he can get the ball in open space. The more I watch his tape, the more I think he might project best as an outside linebacker, where he showed great motor and ability to make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. Reads and reacts very well and can close space on a fly. Definitely, a player that I think should make a jump in the next rankings update.
Thomas Davis Thomas Davis 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lincoln North Star | 2024 State NE | Lincoln North Star | 6’1″ 185 lbs
Interested Schools: Midland, Augustana, Concordia, Briar Cliff, Dakota Wesleyan, Penn, Dartmouth, Southwest Minnesota State, and Hastings College.
Rundown: Thomas is a player that I’ve been really impressed with this offseason. Davis has been hard at work with the Nebraska Red Wolves 7v7 team and has stood out at several tournaments. He didn’t have a ton of production his junior season as the Gators featured a very young offense, but he shows all the tools to play at the next levels. He’s developed a lot in his route running and how to read defenses. Thomas uses his body very well and plays a lot bigger than his size. He’s received quite a few Junior Day invites and interest from several schools but is still waiting to land his first offer.
* Will attend Prospects Tour Showcase
Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'0" | WR Omaha Central | 2024 State NE | Omaha Central | 6’0 160 lbs
Rundown: The second of Central’s Brown Brother duo, Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'0" | WR Omaha Central | 2024 State NE , is a player that could play on either side of the ball depending on how Coach Mackey and the new system want to use him. Unfortunately, the Eagles had a rough offensive season, and Jordan was not able to see many targets. However, there is great skill and athleticism to work with, and Jordan should continue to develop nicely.
Landon Oelke Landon Oelke 6'3" | WR Waverly | 2024 State NE | Waverly | 6’2″ 190 lbs
Interested Schools: Dakota Wesleyan
Rundown: Not a whole ton of tape on Landon, but from what I’ve seen, he does a great job exploiting the underneath zones and can make catches outside of his frame with his lengthy arms. Landon’s long stride and burst help him break away from defenders. Showed nice YAC ability. Under-the-radar receiver with solid length and athleticism.
